I poosk daily. Sometimes twice a day.

Non athletic likely letters I have read are given by Yale and other elite schools usually in the regular decision round. About 100 of these letters are sent to the most outstanding applicants in the country. The purpose I imagine is to give the applicant an extra incentive to come there. There is no purpose to sending these letters out early, as by applying SCEA or early decision the applicant has already indicated it is their first choice. There is a thread on cc that actually gives a link to a likely letter sent in I believe in 2005 to an actual applicant. The letter indicated to that applicant that out of almost 20,000 applicants, only about 100 receive those letters. That is different from athletic likely letters. Non athletic likely letters according to the letter on the cc site are where an admission officer is so impressed with an applicant that they ask for a spot to be reserved fror that applicant in the class.
Athletic likely letters on in contrast not sent to the most outstanding students, but are situations where a coach has rallied for a particular student/athlete and they have the academic index needed for admissions, and the coach has gotten word that that applicant will be accepted. The coach sends the likely letter so that the applicant/athlete will stop negotiating with other school coaches, and both coach and player can be assured there is an acceptance. At many schools, the athletes sign a letter of intent to come.

how many people do you know who use “poosk” when it IS needed?

Damn collegebound, how I wish I were good enough to get a real likely letter! Such things are probably reserved for national contest winners, though (like people who win Intel or something)

Okay. I’m concerned. I just got an e-mail saying that they had received my Yale app. However, they did not specify that it had been EA, and they said they’d notify me again when the application was complete. The application is complete. And I thought they’d specify EA. I sent it out snail-mail (I’m paranoid about the internet), on October 31- is that the problem? It was postmarked before the deadline. Ahhhhh. Please respond!

How about you email them instead of asking us, how are we supposed to know the status of your application

No offense, just saying that it’s probably a better idea to ask Yale directly

I called Yale this morning, as I’d thought my app was lost in the mail… they told me to wait two more days because the office was just so overwhelmed with stuff that they wouldn’t be able to check for specific people’s.

Good thing, because I actually received MY RETURN RECEIPT this afternoon!!! It’s quite a relief. Who knew such a small flimsy green card had such powers? hehe.

Probably so

sirius - where in NJ are you? PM me if you want.

b4nnd20- because the e-mail said not to call/e-mail with specific questions, as they are overwhelmed already. I decided to obey that, and so I sought help from somewhere where I thought I might get it.

Anyone in MD get an interview already?

Ahh a guy just called me about an interview (I’m in KS). I am so nervous.

Don’t be nervous. Mine was a lot of fun! Just relax and be yourself.

Sigh thanks. It’s really soon (this Thurs). He said that the deadline for SCEA interviews is Dec. 1, which is why.

We should have a Yale SCEA chatroom on AIM sometime. We post here daily anyway.

Oh and good luck on your interview, jegan3. :)

Hah! I totally agree about the chatroom.
Live conversation would just be so great.
Maybe we should set one up for sometime in the near future.
Or perhaps, as a bit of a faster way of calming our nerves, we could set one up for December 14th? Any takers?
:)

I just got my Eli account information as well as an interview offer today!!! Good news seems to come in bunches lol.:)

Yale SCEA aim chatroom? I can feel the collective anxiety choking me now…

fun, though! : )

scea interview deadline dec 1???

what? can someone confirm this?

Yes, my alumni interviewer said that he was asked to interview me any time before December 1st. I don’t know if its a hard and fast deadline… but its what they are shooting for.
