Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

We got a visit from a Yale rep today, an alumna of my current alma mater. I don’t believe we’ve had one since that class… unless there was an admit three years ago.

I haven’t noticed a slowdown on this thread… actually, it seems quite the opposite to me. I might not be checking it as often as I did before I submitted my app, though, so the overflow of new posts on this thread could be due to that.

I haven’t received a postcard yet either, so you’re not alone.

Basically, I’m trying not to think about December 15th. I’m not counting down the days or anything. I have high hopes, but I know the stats, and all in all i’ve got a pretty realistic attitude. Because, really, there’s almost an 85% chance that I’ll either be really upset that day or already nervous about April.

The worst thing is that pretty much my best friend also applied to Yale early… and, we get out of school for winter break at 1:15 PST (4:15 EST) on the 15th, and we both decided that we were going to go home before checking… so… if I get in I won’t know if I should call her, in case she didn’t, and vice versa… so I’ll probably have to keep it in and not call her for at least a few hours if I get in.

Ouch, bluetissues, what a dilemma…usually your best friend is someone you can confide in! There are 5 EA applicants to Yale from my grade, but thankfully I’m not friends with any of them. I would be overwhelmingly depressed if one of them were accepted instead of me, since I’m told I have the best chances. It’s all so stupid! I wish I could go back in time and not tell anyone where I applied…now that I’ve let people know, the expectations are there and people are going to know. If I don’t tell people on the 15th, they’ll know I didn’t have exciting news…so I pretty much cant keep it secret…Dang!

and wow, I’ve noticed that all my anxiety is stemming from the fact that I’ve got people to please or an appearance to keep up. None of it is actually about Yale! I have a pretty healthy attitude about college itself, I know I will get in somewhere good in the end…but it’s just the expectations of people that make it tough…

For my school, the average GPA is a 4.0 and the average SAT score is a 2400. The data is only from last year, and that was the only person who got in last year. Harvard, on the other hand, is much more relieving: 3.99 GPA and 2395.

Grr. 4 (or 5) other early apps from my school. 1 (or 2) of them are recruited. The other three are my friends, two of whom are good friends. Ahh!

Dekans6 - I brought my resume and transcript to my interview, just in case. At the beginning I told him he could use it if he wanted to, but he said he didn’t need it, so I just kept it.

Does anyone know what they say online if they reject you? I just want to prepare myself for the worst…I’m a bit of a pessimist by nature.

Also, HUUUGELY important question here: I got an AMAZING recommendation from my journalism teacher at my Oxford summer program…I got it after the EA deadline…should I still send it in? I don’t want to get them irritated…I already sent in supplementary material…ha.

Suggestions, anyone? I’d appreciate it.

Good luck, you guys. Hope you all make it, from what I’ve seen, you’re all amazing. I’m telling myself over and over that I already got in with full scholarships to my two safety schools (University of Arizona and Arizona State) just to remind myself that life truly does go on after deferral/rejection.
But still…I’m not convinced yet.

theoneo… is a 2395 possible? I’d thought that SAT scores are in 10-point increments

farseer0514, if I were you, I would wait to see what I hear on the 15th and then send that extra recommendation if it’s a deferral.

farseer…Oxford tradition? me too!! I was an English lit major and a Music minor. pembroke or st. pete’s?

junior, the stats system probably did SAT score averages and 2395 was the average…it’s like saying the average number of children in an american family is 1.3

Lunar Chik- I was a Pembroke girl all the way! It’s so great that someone else did it as well…I majored in journalism and law & society.

Summer of my life…
What state are you from?

if you haven’t received a postcard yet, why don’t you send an email to the office about your application status? on yale.edu, there is a new link that says if you have not received email confirmation, letter and/or the postcard, write to this lady and she will notify you on your status.

juniorinhs - like I said, it was an average, because two people got into Harvard: the 4.0/2400 and a 3.7/2390, so the average is 3.9/2350.

People can get into Harvard with a 3.7 GPA?? Yay!!:)

Oops. Sorry, it was 3.97, which made the average 3.99. But someone did get into Yale with a 3.78!

they muct have been legacy/urm/athlete/outofthisworldamazingECs…

erghh

Well, lollipop, that thinking won’t get us anywhere, no point thinking about it until we get our decision, and even then ):

lol I’m really wondering why i even applied listening to you guys talk :-/

All this crappy talk has only been going around for a week…it’s just that we’re really nervous about our apps and we’ve got 3 weeks to wait

lollipop27: maybe everyone should just post stats now, and then all you will have to do once you hear the words is type in accepted, rejected, deferred. that way, emotions wont get in the way.

I think that’s a really good idea. Here’s the format from last year if anyone wants to do so:

vegangirl, I entered a few categories in NFAA, but I didn’t know the results came out on Dec 1. Would you notify Yale if you won something, or do you think it would be too late?

My name is Phil and I’m an alcoholic…

wrong thread.

I too entered in NFAA and would certainly notify Yale. The website says Dec. 1 is notification of awards.
