Haha. In retrospect, I don’t know what got into me. I’m not usually that corny. I’ve just had a really good past couple of weeks, so I feel almost euphoric.

Haha, fock you theo, I’ve been having the worst couple weeks of my life

poor b4nnd20. i hope things improve… like maybe you’ll get an acceptance letter from Yale, haha

Jegan was that “haha” at the end really necessary!?!? Is my chance of getting accepted that much of a joke :(

sorry b4nnd20! just meant to indicate that really, an acceptance letter from yale would make up for weeks and weeks and weeks of despair and agony :)

Any acceptance letter would make up for weeks of agony…I’m now regretting applying early. I should have forgone the temptation and just applied RD to all my schools. That way I wouldn’t have had to go through all this trauma. I would have had time to calmly perfect all my applications. Instead, I’m going to be rejected in December and my life is going to suck until April 1…it’s going to be like these agonizing weeks, except it’ll be months.

haha. i’m just as disheartened as you, b4nnd20… this waiting process sucks. A LOT. I have this sickening feeling I’m not getting in. BAWL.

Post your stats, it’ll make you feel SO much better!!!11

not…

b4nnd20, where else are you applying, out of curiosity? Sorry if you’ve already posted this… I just don’t feel like wading through 50 pages, lol.

Princeton, Harvard, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, Univ. of Chicago, UPenn, Stanford, Wellesley

So, 2 safeties, 1 match (maybe 2 if you count UChicago, I interviewed with an admissions officer there and he pretty much promised me $), and the rest are reaches

which are the two safeties there?

Duke and UNC. I’m in-state.

Duke isn’t a safety for anyone b4nnd20 unfortunately. A couple of years ago, a senior from my school who had a 4.0, taken 8 AP’s, ~1500ish on the old SAT I, and almost triple 800s on his SAT IIs was outright rejected by Duke. I think it’s a good match school for you though. UNC would probably work as a good safety in my professional opinion.;)

Dunno, just going off info my counselor gave me–former admissions officer there and current scholarship application reader

Nice. I just finished submitting all my apps to the following (literally moments ago… it’s so nice to be done):
Columbia, Princeton, UNC, Duke, UVa, Georgetown, Amherst, Wellesley, Michigan, Wash U, KU (my state school/safety).
I’ll probably end up applying to Harvard as well, although I’m not even sure if I’d want to go there. Just, you know, to see.

Exactly, I’m applying to Harvard even though I don’t really want to go. Even though I might rob the spot of someone who actually really wants to go.

My parents are making me apply…I kind of understand their logic. They basically tell me that because college admissions are such a crapshoot, I might get into Harvard but not other places (ie, Yale/Princeton/Stanford), and it’s good to have to go to Harvard…and while it’s pretty self-indulgent to think that I’ll get into Harvard, I agree that would be a nice choice to have if I got rejected from my top 3. And I’m sure I could find people to like at Harvard, even if the school is kind of prickish.

Yale, U Mich (yay rolling safeties), Stanford, Brown, Upenn, Princeton, and either Harvard or GWU

I think applying somewhere ‘just to see’ is a terrible use of time and money, and is just… wrong. It might also belie a need for external validation of self-worth, however much it might be buried beneath layers of cynical musing.

Just kidding! Maybe. I mean, about the validation thing. I do think it is wrong to satisfy your curiosity that way. But a rant for another time.

I’m not doing it out of curiosity. Were you referring to me, Cozmo? Because I said outright in my post that I’m applying to give myself the choice of going there, if my top 3 don’t work out and I get into Harvard. I’d rather go to Harvard than my safety schools. So I’m applying as a “Backup,” but not as a safety-type backup (duh).

Not to mention that since it is Common App, the only other thing you need are two more recs and a school report (with the same forms as Yale) and an application fee. If the fee is not a problem, then there’s no problem applying to somewhere where you would go over other schools that you’re applying to.
