Interview (feel and general location):
o On-campus was good. He asked me about my position on international environmental politics, which was fun. But it was my first college interview, so it wasn’t that great.
o My alumni one was awesome. My interviewer is a member of an open space preservation organization that I’ve volunteered for, so we talked about environmental issues for like 45 minutes, and it lasted an hour and a half in all, and he seemed to like my response to “Why do you belong at Yale?”. Interview (feel and general location):

Hook (if any): n/a

Location/Person:
State or Country: Marin County, CA (northern Cali)
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available) : Parochial/Catholic/Private, medium-sized (704 kids), not many Ivy kids unfortunately (only one got into Yale, and that was a 3.8 rower), no idea about average SAT, but definitely some smart kids in each grade
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Income Bracket: Upper
Gender: Female
Strengths: Excellent writer; have a clearer plan than others of what I’d like to do in college. I’d like to think that I’m well-rounded; I’ve gotten good grades but still managed to enjoy high school, making friends, having a boyfriend, being a Homecoming princess - I’m not saying that anyone else has not experienced this, but this is just what I consider one of my strengths. Then again, that may be not what they’re looking for at all.
Weaknesses: my SAT scores don’t match up with my grades (except for the Writing one); I probably haven’t articulated well enough that writing is my passion.

hahaha theoneo, i got that bloustein thing as well, what the hell were the requirements?

Dude, zutsuit, we have the exact same unweighted GPA!

comeon page 50.

22 more days…this is getting annoying…

That we do, theoneo – but I wish I had your weighted one!! :p

And b4nnd20 – I know!! Gah, I want so badly to just skip ahead those three weeks…

vegangirl–thank you for your compliments, they’re the best thing one can hear right now. I’m sure you have stellar writing creds based on your posts from other threads, so it was nice to hear from you about this.

As for the writing awards, I would rather not say specifically what I got for reasons of confidentiality and the whole internet stalker factor, but vaguely:

-Scholastic National Gold X2
-NCTE
-University of Kansas
-University of Texas
-Writer’s Slate
-United States English Merit Award–creative writing category
-The last one I’d rather not say because it’s kind of easy to find my profile on the internet if you know what it is, but pm me if you really want to know.

In terms of fundraising, I was pretty much at it all the time. To name a few of the bigger fundraisers: a tennis tournament, a concert, multiple bake sales, breakfast sales (verrry popular at my school), a fashion show, and finally and probably most time consuming, I sent out hundreds of letters asking for donations from the community, and then created a letter correspondence between the orphans and their sponsors. This was the most effective fundraiser.

I appreciate the sentiments that some of you expressed regarding my fundraising experience. But please don’t let it make you feel inadequate or anything like that–fundraising for AIDS orphans was basically the foremost activity I participated in in high school. It took up an enormous chunk of my life, and that’s probably why I got the results I did. There is probably some factor of your application that you clearly spent a LOT of time on, such as brilliant standardized testing or debate or something besides charitable fundraising, so it would ultimately be pointless to fiscally compare fundraising experiences; like apples and oranges.

ahh, the semi-pornographic tell-alls. I’ll post mine later, but I feel bad since so many of these fields would be blank! I mean, we don’t rank, we aren’t offered alumni interviews, so forth and so on…

Decision: Deferred(most likely lol)

Other Factors: essays are crucial
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I hate my school’s grading procedure. Everybody on this thread is too qualified. I wish I could change my ethnicity. Yale is too competitive. If Koena gets deferred or rejected, I’m not even going to botcher to check my decision online.

well, you people officially rock. keep up the good work:)

i love looking through all our posts and seeing some really funny threads–i’m sensing kind of the same sense of humor-in-the-face-of-rejection from all the subjective things. you know, like throwing in “natch” or “yo” after random stuff, that kind of thing. i hope all yale kids are like this (and that we all become yale kids!)

Well in honor of Thanksgiving (and on that note, Happy Thanksgiving), I think we should all be thankful that even if it’s not Yale that we end up at, we’ll all end up at some really great schools and we’ll all eventually be happy where we are. We should be thankful that we’re so awesome.
So thanks.
And Happy Turkey Day everyone.
((22))

Yay! I agree. We should look back on all of the things we have done, which, in all of our cases, are really things to be proud of and thankful for accomplishing. And sirius is right, we will all end up at great schools and we will be happy.
So, smile, go have some fun with your family, and eat lots of food!

I third that! Everyone here has accomplished so much in their few years of existence - definitely be proud of what you’ve done & thankful that you’ve had such amazing opportunities and will have so many more in the future!

With that said, I’m fasting until dinner so I can eat POUNDS UPON POUNDS of mashed potatoes!

I hope yall’s essays weren’t this cheesy lol
