eeek! i’m finally having my alumni interview today!!

Wow how late… but good luck!!!

hahaha i just got an email from my interviewer. im having my interview tomorrow (he said it had to be before tuesday so im assuming that 12/5 is the deadline).

Thanks!.. How did you guys prepare for you interview? Did you bring any supplement-type things about yourself? What did u ask your interviewer? ahh! just slightly freaking out :-)

I didn’t bring any supplementary stuff, but I did prepare what points to discuss: my passion for writing/public speaking/peer education, the fact that I’m well-traveled, how much I adored Yale when I visited and how that feelings’ stayed with me for the last seven months…

The best thing to do is RELAX. Smile a lot, maintain eye contact even if there are awkward silences. Make sure you let him/her known your passions (and if you don’t have a definite passion, that’s fine too – just talk about favorite subjects, etc., things that will give him/her a more personal idea of you) and why you want to go to Yale.

Good luck!!

I brought some artwork that I’d done, but not much else. I did, however, think a lot about the questions I knew for sure they were going to ask.

Deadline isn’t dec 5 because my interview is the 7… and I am also extremely nervous!

wow! I didnt know that interviews could be so late… I had mine on 11/3! How much can interviews count at all if they can be sent in less than a week before decisions?

According to what they’ve reported to Collegeboard, it’s merely ‘considered’ (very important > important > considered > not considered. Something like that.)

i feel like dec 7 would be the bare, bare deadline, like he’s writing it that night. i really don’t see how the adcomms wuld have enough time otherwise

BASICS [I’m a RD applicant but all the EA folk for Yale seemed so cool and interesting! (Although I think the Princeton ED applicants are a tad cooler . . .) I really admire a lot of you guys. I feel the mellow “Yale” vibe already! Yale EA applicants, you all sound so friendly and wonderful!]

Coolest word: gelid (ha ha ha)
One adjective to describe yourself: unconventional

Favorite non-academic, non-EC hobby: looking up words in the dictionary FOR FUN and for, ahem, intense pleasure. Haha. I also really like making odd greeting cards and making up fake advertisements for fictional products and inventions. SLEEPING?

Favorite songs: Clair de Lune, Gymnopedie (Satie), “Where Your Eyes Don’t Go” by TMBG, “Waiting to Know You” by The Fiery Furnaces, “Right as Rain: Part II” by the Lawrence Arms, “Quincentuple Your Money” by the Lawrence Arms, “Twilight” by Electric Light Orchestra, “Modern World” by Wolf Parade, “Legionaire’s Lament” by the Decemberists, “The Montagues and Capulets” by Prokofiev (what a BLOODY song!), “Become What You Hate” by Midtown, “No Surprises” by Radiohead . . . I could listen to each one over and over again . . . for hours . . . for days.

Favorite books: Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, stuff by Michael Chabon, The Trumpet of the Swan, Moby-Dick, McSweeney’s collections edited by Michael Chabon, writing by Michael Chabon, Everything is Illuminated, Goosebumps series by R.L.
Favorite movies: I always forget movies. I can never remember quotes. I’ll give it a go: Little Miss Sunshine, Borat, the Benchwarmers (I like funny movies)

Worst habits: bad use of time (I’m very prodigal with time), often asocial voluntarily, ambiguous, likes to be too thorough, too critical, unorganized, bites nails (moderately), not very motivated by grades or awards or chair placement, not very motivated by material goods or money, not very motivated by anything really, motivated by good food and good drink and good sleepy time, falls asleep in 5th period after lunch every single day.

Best habits: bedtime prayer, mealtime prayer, good sleeper, drinks a lot of water, does breathing exercises every day, eats insects for extra protein, reads for pleasure, has meaningful relationships with people, laughs a lot, eats a lot of chocolate and yogurt, makes happy time, is proactive, enjoys life

welcome subrosian!
hooray for the decemberists, radiohead, and everything is illuminated.
and best of luck RD :)

I’m dead serious. All the applicants for Yale EA seem to be very friendly and supportive of eachother!

I have Everything is Illuminated. I started reading it in eighth grade but never finished. But everyone who’s read it loves it.

HMM, WHAT TO DO… tough choice.

Let’s talk about how people don’t understand the concept of ivy admissions…

Today I was in study and refered to wanting to watch ‘Orange County’ after my pending rejection and this kid was like 'Wait… you really think you’re getting rejected?" Me: “Well, probably deferred… same difference.” Him: “Is there really anything UNperfect on your application???” Me: “It doesn’t matter!!”

We then quickly descend into a large group conversation of me trying to convince them that I suck enough to get rejected… It was kind of amusing but actually getting a little frustrating…

Any thoughts? Similar experiences?

Wow, all the time.

And btw, that’s like my favorite movie of all time :)

There are a core group of 20 ‘smart kids’ in my grade, and after that, there’s a huge drop off. And even then…only about 10 of those 20 truly get it…that everything can be ‘perfect’ and you can still not get in.

Plus, I love my friends to death, but they just don’t understand. I mean, they thought becoming a NMSF meant I was getting in wherever.

I know exactly how you feel lol

haha yessss…some of my friends don’t realize how amazing soooo many of the yale applicants are. Just because I have good SATs and a nice GPA doesn’t mean I’m in lolll!!! I think 90% of applicants have amazing GPAs and test scores!!! What’s worse, there have been people bashing me for wanting to go to an Ivy League school…I’ve been called “elitist,” and accused of just wanting a name. Our flagship state school is really good, but it’s waaaay too big for me, and when I visited Yale I fell in love. I get tired of people thinking that the only reason I want to go to Yale is for the name…it’s not that at all!!! And it’s not as if I can’t explain why I want to go to Yale…I have so many reasons, but some people won’t listen. Ahh good luck to everyone…I hope a lot of us get good news on the 15th!!!

im off to my interview. wish me luck.

Good luck homeslice… (Pause and giggle at the fact that I just said good luck homeslice)… okay go!

Yeah, I’m glad we all agree. My friends all roll their eyes but I’m like seriously multiply me by 4000 and then pick names out of a hat… Now you’ve achieved the Yale admissions process… Then they just roll their eyes again.

Yeah koena07! Tom Hanks son is so funny, he talks just like his dad… The end is such a question mark too… He’s like “i’m just not going to go anywhere!” and they’re all like “yayyy”

My parents are like that too! They are convinced that I am perfect, but if only I could show them the stats of people on CC…then again I’m glad they’re confident in me
