Official Yale 2011 Scea Thread

I have this really strong feeling I’m going to get deferred. That’s lame. I’d much rather get accepted (duh) or just outright rejected so I’m not stressing over probable rejection in April.

Since everyone is on edge about EA I thought you would like to know there is about 345,600 seconds to go.

Those stories of people hacking into servers to get their decisions wouldn’t have any merit to them if they weren’t occasionally decided earlier. Then again, some might be decided and uploaded to hypothetical decision-o-matic-server earlier than others.

to be honest, i’m not freaking either. i’m expecting deferral, so i guess i have nothing to freak about either way. and my parents aren’t expecting anything. and i only told my close friends, who won’t judge me. so it’s not a big big deal.

but i just have no patience, so i don’t want to wait to find out. plus i have a feeling it’ll be bad news…especially after finding out today the amazing people at school who got rejected/deferred from dartmouth…which blows. all that stress for nothing.

ha has anyone else ever had the experience where they post something on a forum or on aim and then realize how late it is when they see the time of the post??? ha i had no idea it was already 4:15 eastern time…darn it. time flies when you’re procrastinating and bored…

hey guys

so i know we hear on friday through the website but what time exactly should i start checking?

does anybody know what time the decisions have come out in past years?

and also, does anyone know if the accepted decisions are available maybe an hour or so before the deferred/rejected?

thanks a lot guys and good luck to all!

i think around 430p eastern time

I think I personally will start casually checking at around 4, and then maniacally checking around 4:25.

Last year I remember checking a little after 5. The decisions were up and I didn’t have any problem with the site. I know some people had problems with the site crashing, but I think that happened later in the evening. Good luck to you all!

I’ll have that window up all day from 8am and will refresh periodically. I have nothing planned for that afternoon. Either I’m accepted and I celebrate with my family and do some mad partying with friends, or I get rejected and my family hates me. Hopefully it’s the former!!! Good luck everyone…I hope we all don’t crash the server with our manic refreshing :D

im freaking out., but im expecting a deferral.

same, if i’m lucky
i’m just hoping it’s not a flat out rejection

Does anyone know the rough percentages for applicants who they accept/defer/reject? I read something on MIT about how they defer 75% of early applicants. That seemed a little insane to me. I didn’t expect them to accept a lot, but I thought the majority of other applications would be rejected.

Well, last year, Yale accepted 17% of early applicants and deferred 53%…but this year the number of early applications is down by 13%, so it’s probably a bad idea to try to apply the same statistics to this year’s pool. We’ll have to wait and see

it seems crazy to me that they defer that many people. I’d almost rather just have a rejection, so that I wouldn’t feel tense for the next however many months.

O.K. there are 3541 EAs. Figure about 20% do not qual. but just wanted to apply for fun. So, that leaves about 2832 possibles. However, there were 13% less EAs this year. Therefore, in order to have the same number of acceptences as last year the result could be a 20% accept rate of the 3541. Perhaps an even 710 to 730. As for deferrals, it could be higher than 46% because of concerns that RA amounts may be lower.

I’d rather be deferred than rejected. Wouldn’t you rather be told “You might deserve to go here” than “You definitely don’t meet our standards” ?

Oh yeah… I just mean it’s more stressful. I hate this waiting, and I wish I just knew where I was going. But if I’m not accepted to Yale, I’ll just begin waiting for my other decisions, so I guess there’s not much harm in being deferred rather than rejected.

You’d have to wait anyway, whether you got deferred or rejected. It would be just a little easier to wait if I got deferred rather than rejected

edit: 3 days 20 hours!

Right, I agree with you.

Four days, guys. This is crazy. The closer it gets, the more pessimistic I become. Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking.
