I have a bit of advice for rd applicants. According to my interviewer Yale wants people who will not be in their room studying all day, and judging from the people who got in that certainly seems to be the case. So try somewhere in your app about how you have friends and hang out with them or something.

Reflection
Strengths: Leadership
Weaknesses: My scores weren’t quite up there with the best of the best I guess?
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: If it’s because of my scores, then I think it’s a little ridiculous… I’m going to guess it’s because I’ve never won a major award?
General Comments: Well, the next few weeks should be pure joy!

To all of you accepted, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You deserve it!

To all of us deferred… we’re still some of the strongest applicants in the world. Briefly glancing through some of these stats, they’re amazing, they’re mind boggling, and they’re absolutely kick butt! Most of you have GREAT shots at getting in later, and almost all of you will get into a great school. I wish you all the best of luck in the coming months, and may the gods favor you!

I don’t know why everyone is so upset about being deferred. I was deferred and I’m just stoked not to be rejected! Think of it this way–if you were to find out today that you were rejected, that would be the only thing you would have to focus on, and you would be terribly depressed. However, if you are to find out on April 1 that you are rejected, you will likely also be receiving several acceptance letters the same day. Therefore, instead of focusing solely on the depression associated with you denial from Yale, you will also be celebrating your acceptance to other prestigious schools. This is my reasoning, and I find it to be pretty sound.

Congratulations to all who were accepted! And good luck to the rejected!

As for my fellow deferred applicants, let’s spend our four-month wait filling out more applications, shall we?

Deferred
The other EA girl from our tiny private school also didn’t get in (deferred/rejected->not sure)

Wow, Zishu too. We got our asses kicked.

Takingbacksara, totally agreed!

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 800 CR 800 Math 760 Writing
[] ACT: None.

[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1st of about 400
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): None
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): None
[] Senior Year Course Load: Usual classes (I’m in China, we don’t have AP/honors)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Nothing brilliant by American standards, but hefty for Chinese students. Choir, theatre, Model UN, sewing, webpage design, translation.
[] Job/Work Experience: None.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Translator, teacher for a slum school.
[] Summer Activities: See above.
[] Essays: One was normal, the other was pretty good according to people who read it.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Great.
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty awesome.
[] Additional Rec: None.
[] Interview: I thought it went so-so, but apparently the interviewer really liked me.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: No.
[] Intended Major: Literature.

[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 60k-100k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I’m a Chinese student who wants to study English Literature, and whose essay was about that. Consider the novelty value!
[] Weaknesses: No APs. Plus China is a hell of a hard pool - they take about ten maximum from all over the country every year in SCEA.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Essays, intended major, and very real passion about something most Chinese students don’t consider taking up.
[/ul]General Comments:
Good luck to everyone deferred - hope to see you when April comes around!

Yepp. Does anyone with a perfect score get accepted yet? Based on a quick glance of posts, none? I know somebody with 2400 got straight REJECTION. Gosh Yale is not a fan of high scores. < Kidding~

[/ul]General Comments: CONGRATS to the Yale 14ers! I’m slowly starting to get over the sting of deferral but then I read how 50% of SCEA applicants were deferred. So I guess it’s time to get over Yale.

they have seemed to be extremely harsh on 2400’s this year… although sheesh, based on what seems to be occurring in this thread, the 13+% acceptance rate seems very high…

my friend got accepted with his 1 sitting 2400

My best wishes to all of you! Whether you attend Yale or not, I hope you find your place. I am extremely impressed with the high-caliber of all of these apps.
