Official Yale EA 2013 Hopeful Thread

NIck017 doesn’t know what he’s talking about. And that guy who’s named after Rocket Power or something types like he’s in middle school. Oh the internet. I love you.

I did a resume too. Actually, I spent the same amount of time on it as on my college essay.

Apparently it’s really important! =D thumbs up I don’t think it’s the groundwork on getting you into Yale, but I do think it plays a big role~ correct me if I’m wrong XD

Swell. I see I’m not the only one still at essays.

mistofolis: I’m international too!

Any other international?

Just submitted my app yesterday.

Does anyone know how you can check its status online?

on the common app site, under the yale thing under my colleges, it should say application and supplement submitted/downloaded. If it says submitted, the college has gotten it but hasn’t printed it out. when its downloaded, they have put it in your file.

yale likes to do this in the morning…i went on today at like 6 AM to go on common app but it wouldnt let me log in…i came back at 6:15 and i was on the site and it changed my status to downloaded. so i guess it kicks you off while they get it.

gosh you all are so on top of things. I have barely started my application. Any advice? How long did you all on average spend per essay?

and resumes? What’s the importance of those - won’t it jsut “dilute” your other activities? Should I submit one?

resumes = life!

Are resumes really that important? I’ve never heard of sending one in until I got to this site. Guess I should start working on one…

^ yeah I felt the same way about resumes. Isn’t there a place for all of the information on a resume (transcript, ECs, test scores, etc) somewhere else on the application? If we’re supposed to send a resume, do we just include it in the “additional information” section?

^
yes, it is customary if you are sending in a resume to upload it into the additional info section.

Should the resumes only include info that isn’t on the actual CommonApp? Like EC’s that aren’t the seven listed, etc. or should we reiterate them in the resume?

So confused :S Is there a sample version out there?

I’m not sending a resume since it’d be redundant. I guess it just varies for each person. We’ll find out in December or April.

be_somebody:

Include everything on your resume, but no, don’t put frivolous, unexplainable things on there. However:

 1. Reiterate what you wrote on your CommonApp to emphasize it. (something REALLY important that you HAVE to have the AO see)
 2. If you’re in IB, that’s a good place to stick it (right under your name and GPA/Class rank/something)
 3. Also, if you’ve had any important solo-projects (such as organizing a school-wide fundraiser or something), put that on too
 4. Also, it’s okay to go for more than a page so the resume doesn’t look like my room. Unless, of course, the application specifies that you should keep it on one page

i hope i get in :)

for anyone else that has applied for 2013 already, did you get your eli id yet/how long did it take to get it? Its been a week and I havent got confirmation from yale or an id, even though it says they downloaded my app.

my d has her application in and has not received any confirmation directly from admissions… but she has already been contacted by the area alumni interviewer. her coach (recruited) did email her and confirmed admissions has all required info.

HARRO FELLOW YALE COMRADES.

After reading every other fifth page of these posts, I have to go with the crowd and say that I’m utterly stressed/about to shoot myself in the knee/REALLY IMPRESSED WITH YALE’S VIEWBOOK. I’ve basically finished the essays and working on the violin CD that I’m sending in. My school isn’t big on the whole Ivy-Reague trend, so I hope that I can commiserate w/ people here on the admission process. It’s so aggravating.

…is it bad if I happened to use the word ‘rapping’ in one of those short answer questions…?

^ Don’t sweat it…

I’ve pretty much have my heart set on rejection. Too many excellent students on CC. But 75 dollars and a few hours of effort is always worth a shot for an excellent school with good financial aid.

Also, I have the UC schools as my fallbacks. They are excellent university system and with my ELC status am guaranteed into one. So… oh well.

**** **** ****!!! The Stress Is Killing Me! I Haven’t Started My Essays And My Sat Iis Are This Saturday!!!
