<p>I just thought it would be worthy to start a new thread for us waitlistees of the class of 2016! And I hope this thread can provide us with some useful information too. I really want to go to Yale so I put my mind to work and did some calculations.</p>
<p>The only useful data is of 2006: waitlist: 728 placed, 204 accepted, 56 admitted
More data: - Yaleās yield was 65,9% for 2015
- Yaleās 2015 size was: 1,351 students
- Yale admitted 1975 students this year
- Yale waitlisted 1001 students this year</p>
<p>Assuming that yield rate stays the same (which wonāt happen of course) then 1975*0.659=1301. So 1301 students of the 1975 who got admitted will enroll. If we assume that the size of the class will be the same then thereās room for 50 students (supposedly, students who will be taken off the waitlist). And also, if the wait list yield is the same of 2006, then of the 1001 that were put on the wait list this year, only 280 student will accept to remain on the wait list.</p>
<p>Thus, 50/280=18% chance that if you accepted to remain on the wait list you will be taken off it.

Nearly 1/5 chance. I donāt know if this makes me happy or not, but I had to do it. Maybe the yield will come down or whatever. Hope the numbers are right though</p>

<p>Hey Iām on the waitlist also! I think 18% is a bit too high however. According to a Yale Daily News article in 2010, only āaround two-thirds of students waitlisted by Yale choose to stay on the waiting list, Brenzel saidā. So I think the chance is even slimmer than that unfortunately.</p>
<p>Donāt linger onto hopes of getting admitted off of the waitlist, itāll only make the next few months hell. I accepted a spot, but I am very happy with the schools I got accepted to!</p>

The goal of the thread isnāt to get our hopes up, I really just wanted people on the wait list to talk about themselves, their possible majors, colleges they have been accepted to, etcā¦ but I couldnāt help trying to predict how many students could be taken off the wait list this year based on the class size and whatever, even if it is way off x) So where did you get accepted?</p>
<p>@HippyHoo youāre probably right, but I didnāt have that information so I just looked at the 2006 wait list yield. Where are you from? :)</p>
<p>I agree that we should psychologically ignore the chances of being admitted from the wait list (letās face it, theyāre slim no matter how you slice it). Better to focus on the positive! For me, Iāll be going to Brown if Yale doesnāt work out. Any one else know where theyāre going next year (sans Yale, obviously)?</p>
<p>@seawaves, From other waitlist threads, Yale calls you to notify you that youāre accepted. Iām not sure what they do if you are denied off the waitlist.</p>

<p>@jumpercable I think no one is denied off the waitlist until itās closed. They keep it open until a certain date; if you have not received a call by then they will send you an email telling you that the list is closed. Iām not sure what the date is but I think I read somewhere 30 June but maybe Iām confusing it with some other date.</p>

Yale was losing out on students who applied to Yale early but really wanted to go to Harvard or Princeton, he said, causing YaleĀs yield to drop. But, he said, the fact that Harvard and Princeton are both bringing back early admissions this year will raise YaleĀs yield next year.ā</p>
<p>^ These next to to months are going to be hell! @cahsparent I wish they could give us the yield already and not just in August; it would be so much better for my sanity.</p>
<p>MIT just closed their wait list this afternoon. They didnāt take anyone from the wait list, for the first time in 7 years, due to a 70+% yield. Any thoughts on what this might predict for the Yale yield?</p>
