I forgot that Harvard requires a Secondary School report, and of course everyone is on vacation, including my guidance couselor. What should I do? Also, is the personal statement the response we wrote in our common app?

You’ll need to get the School Report in by the deadline. Track your GC down after Christmas and get him/her to submit it before January 1.

The personal statement is different from the Common Application essay; it is part of Harvard’s Supplement. You’ll need to submit it, as well, before the deadline.

I believe Harvard’s personal statement is optional.

You are absolutely right la montagne.

It is optional, but come on… who wouldn’t submit one? Harvard practically begs you to sell yourself to them.

It states specifically:

Nothing in this section is either expected or required. We simply want to be certain you have every opportunity to tell us about yourself.

Occasionally, students feel that college application forms do not provide a sufficient opportunity to convey important information about themselves or their accomplishments. If there is something you would like us to know, please inform us below. If you wish to include an additional essay, you may do so.

Possible Topics:
- Unusual circumstances in your life
- Travel or living experiences in other countries
- Books that have affected you the most
- An academic experience (course, project, paper, or research topic) that has meant the most to you
- A list of the books you have read during the past twelve months

=P True, I know. I’m sure almost everyone submits one.

What should I do?

Get in touch with your GC ASAP

I tried emailing her but no reply. Should I contact Harvard, if so what number/email?

try the harvard website…

I contacted Harvard twice already and no reply, do they have off? I need them to know now.

Call your GC at home. Did you get your Personal Statement written?

Good luck.

Not to worry. Your school could send in your secondary report after the deadline. It is only your app that needs to be in by the deadline. My daugther decided to add a few more schools over the xmas break last year. Her counselor told her not to worry about it. They get a few weeks to get everything in.

All of those schools will notify you sometimes in Jan or Feb to let you know if your apps are complete. It is still not too late to send missing info in at that point.

as long as you have your app and supplement in on time it’s ok if the rest of the documents are late. I applied ED to another school and the deadline was November 1st. My teacher didn’t MAIL his recommendation out until the 5th, and everything turned out ok. No worries!

Sweet, yeah everything else is in, common app, supplement, statement, just this one last form.

Thanks

And if they say something, then jsut say, “maybe it got lost in the mail.” or sthm like that. colleges and mailing systems lose stuff occasionally.
