I just got an email from the Penn in Washington summer coordinator. For some background, PIW sponsors events where speakers can talk to Penn students and alums. Today I’m going to see the Chairman of the Fed (to give you guys an example).

Here’s how the email read

Students,

For yesterdays Sam Donaldson event, Mr. Donaldsons assistant received a list from me several days ago that said 43 people were registered to attend. Several of you emailed yesterday to say you wouldnt be attending. She set up 40 chairs. Eleven people showed up. This is an insult to Mr. Donaldson, annoying for his assistant, and an embarrassment to me and Penn. Even if we account for one illness, one unexpected travel, and five unreasonable supervisors, that leaves a lot of you who decided for whatever reason not to attend. (I dont suggest you send me your reason for not attending at this point)

I will shortly be sending emails to those of you who registered for the law lunch, the national security reception, and the speaker at the IMF. The final headcounts for all three events will be delivered tomorrow. If you are unable to attend, email me TODAY so that I can remove you from the list. If you are on the final list, I expect you to attend.

Only Penn students would sign up for events and then flake out

Sounds like some great opportunities, though. :)
