I applied to UCLA as a Materials Engineering major. After talking to a lot of UCLA students, I heard that Materials Engineering at UCLA is not that popular, and that seeking jobs will be very difficult. I don’t know what to do at this point.

I don’t wanna have to change my major, unless I really have to. But if I do, is changing majors within the College of Engineering (e.g. Materials -> Mechanical) easy to do? If I do decide to major in Materials Engineering, can I earn a Master’s in either Mechanical engineering or Electrical engineering?

Changing majors within a specific college is easy, but changing to a major that’s in another college (i.e. engineering –> letters and sciences) is not.

if you think it’s interesting, just stick with it… you will be taking some seminar in your first quarter anyways… plus job outlook can’t be that bad compared to other jobs
changing majors shouldn’t be that hard though and if you stick with materials, yeah I think you can have a masters in others… but it depends on the graduate school too

actually, it it depends on what college to what college. going from HSSEAS to L&S is actually pretty easy…whereas going from L&S to HSSEAS is difficult

MSE isn’t that popular, but who gives a crap. Do what you love, and be broke. If getting a job is your primary concern, as it should be, then do CS or CS&E since a lot of the companies that were at the career fair were hiring those majors the most followed by EE.
