Ohio State Vs. Lehigh for engineering

How would one say these two schools compare academically for their engineering programs? In terms of job placement? And also in terms of the overall quality of life and social life at both?

I really don’t know much about OSU engineering, but I am fairly familiar with Lehigh. I live pretty close to Lehigh, so this may be a little skewed, but LU engineering is very well thought of and if you wouldn’t mind living in the Lehigh Valley, you will be able to get a job. Information about placement is researchable, or you could send an email to someone there asking about that. I don’t really have anything other than anecdotal evidence (which is all good), but I can tell you that around here, Lehigh engineering is a good place to be from.

I don’t go to Lehigh, but I know they party a lot there. It’s a really big greek school. There are only two or three bars in Bethlehem that people frequent. There are a lot of wealthy students too.

Lived in Bethlehem and know a lot of kids at Lehigh. They say they like it a lot as a school and as NulliSecundus said, it is very well spoken of as an engineering school.

Lehigh is among the better known undergraduate engineering schools.

In fact, its mascot up to a few years ago was “The Engineers”.

by the way, here is some placement stuff from the class of 2009 that might be helpful. Lehigh has a very low percentage of students that are have not gotten jobs or going to graduate schools. For its engineers it is 4% compared to other schools which have over 30% unemployed.

Lehigh is well regarded in terms of engineering even though its academic reputation is often overshadowed by the other in-state schools - Carnegie Mellon U (my cousin is there! lol) & UPenn. It is nonetheless, a great school imho!!

Even though I do not know Lehigh well, I’ve read that it is a liberal art like / small~medium size private university (similar to Case Western w/o the medical school imho) compared to the public flagship Ohio State University - one of the largest single campuses in the nation. Really, comparing Lehigh with tOSU is like comparing apples with oranges, Columbus, OH is one of the fastest growing city in the midwest, and it is roughly 10X the population of Bethlehem, PA, even though Lehigh is located ~2 hours drive to either NYC or Philly. There are nearly 190 majors and over 12,000 courses to choose from at tOSU, and the student to faculty ratio is 13:1 which is ranked top-5 amongst the public universities in America (although compared to schools like Lehigh, it is really a non-factor). When it comes academics, tOSU is one of the up-and-coming universities, best public university in the state of Ohio, constantly making advancement under the current great leadership of President Gordon Gee (ex-Brown & Vanderbilt U President). As an engineering student, you may opt to particpate in the Honda partnership intern program at the nearby Honda auto plant, Battelle research, buckeye bullet 2 and involve in many many other internship and research opportunities offered on/off campus. For ambitious, studious prospective students, I believe tOSU Honors College offers another great option for those to engage-in a liberal arts-like, more intensive and competitive learning environment.

In addition to solid academics, in terms of campus vibe, sporting scences at tOSU should not be overlooked! Well, not sure what NCAA Division or Conference do Lehigh athletics play in, but Ohio State Buckeyes (Big Ten Conference) is one of the most celebrated college sports team in the nation, and most of the students really embrace the sports aspect of the campus culture, from the football tailgate to participate in countless intramural sporting events. Check out the state-of-the-art RPAC student activity center, the over-the-top Thompson Memorial Library, and the newly opened Student Union, tOSU and its immediate neighborhoods exude vibrant urban campus cultures and activities for all vistors and students throughout the year. Oh well, I wasn’t a engineering major back at tOSU, and certainly not familiar with Lehigh (east coast), so my input should really be limited. However, I am certain that you can’t go wrong with either school as tOSU is currently ranked #53 and Leigh #35 via USNWR. Anyway, best Luck to your college search!! Go Bucks!!! lol

Lehigh is highly known on the East coast(especially PA, NJ, NY, MD, CT). Outside that area, the general public might not know but the people in the academia might most probably recognize it. It is known for its undergraduate engineering.

I would pick Lehigh over Ohio U. if cost was not an issue.

Based on USNWR 2011 Graduate Engineering Ranking, Ohio State comes in at #25, Lehigh is #42.
Nevertheless, OP is most likely an undergrad prospective student, therefore, the rankings provided by ‘JohnAdams12’ above should serve the purpose. In terms of the quality / social life at tOSU, there are over 1,000 student organizations that one may choose to be part of in addition to Wexner Performing Center and the adjacent Mershon Auditorium which provide a wide range of shows, plays, exhibitions, concert events,… etc. Of course, there are also the South Campus Gateway Area, the music / art galleries of Short North, the downtown Nationwide Arena district, German Village, Easton Town Center…and many more…for fun and entertainments. These video clip by ‘Experience Columbus’ should give you a glimse of what tOSU and Columbus has to offer!

Anyway, tOSU has alumni clubs in all the major cities across the nation, you can always contact the local chapter for additional details. G’Luck & Go Bucks!!! lol

The Rivalry

nothing else needs to be said

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rivalry_(Lehigh–Lafayette)

The Rivalry is the college rivalry between Lehigh University and Lafayette College. The two institutions are located 17 miles apart in eastern Pennsylvania. The Rivalry is not limited to one sport, but is seen in any meeting of the two schools.

The football rivalry has been played 145 times since 1884, making it the most-played football rivalry in the nation. It is also the longest uninterrupted rivalry, since the teams have met every year since 1897.
