Ohlone college or DVC?? If i really want to get into CAL.

Hi,

I’m confused about what college should I go ?? I know that DVC has the highest transfer rate to UC Berkeley? But since my father want me study in Ohlone college ( Cos I can live in my cousin’s home ) instead of DVC , i’m now at dilemma.
I really want to study Economics in Cal. So, is that a matter what college i go?

Because i’m quite afraid that no matter how hard i try , im still less competitive than the one who’s from DVC with same GPA as me.

( Sorry that my english is poor! )

Both DVC and Ohlone are on the semester system (same as Berkeley), and offer the same courses needed for the Berkeley Economics major:

Introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics (Berkeley Economics 1)

Freshman calculus (Berkeley Math 1A-1B or 16A-16B)

Multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations (optional if you want to do the “more math” version) (Berkeley Math 53 and 54)

Neither offers a course that articulates to Statistics 20, 21, or 25. However, the Berkeley Economics department wants you to complete at least one Math or Statistics course at Berkeley. For more information, see:

You may want to check course availability at each of the community colleges, since state budget problems have made getting some courses very difficult at some community colleges. Also, you do not have to take all of your courses at a single community college, though you should be careful of semester versus quarter system issues with sequenced courses like math.

You may want to check the two community colleges’ online schedules to see which one has openings in the courses you need:

If you really want to compare community colleges as a source of transfer students to UCs, you can look here:

If you can afford it, try taking an economics/math/stat class @ Cal to demonstrate that you can handle the workload/difficulty of the course.

Thanks for your advice!!!@@
So, what college should i go is not a matter. The most important is that i have to fulfill all the prerequisites , such as attend a stat course at Cal. while im still studying in a community college. Am i right?

@@ If i have to attend stat course at Cal , I think that DVC is a better choice for me. Because the distance is quite far between the campus of Cal. and Ohlone. =3=

You do not have to take the Statistics course at Berkeley until after you transfer. See the bottom of this web page:

Also, keep in mind, CCs are facing much stronger budget turmoils than the UC system. You will likely end up taking courses at multiple CCs.

One of my cousins has to spend a third year in the CC system because getting classes is very difficult. He has had to hop around at least three different community colleges to get his classes. One year he found himself taking courses at one quarter system school (DeAnza, I think), while taking courses at another semester system school at the same time.
