So i just got my letter from northwestern today, i’m in at mccormick school of engineering and applied sci. I really didn’t expect to have to consider Northwestern again…do any of you have comments about it? i’m really unsure because i know northwestern is a really big name, really strong bio program, right in chicago…=

woah…what happened? u got ur rejection reversed? whats up?! share with us

when do u have to make a decision by?

sorry, i didnt really make it clear; i got off of the waitlist

deposit is due on may 22, so i assume thats when i have to let them know. sheesh, just a bit more than a week

is money an issue?

not really. i’m just curious abotu the school compared to sd. i’ve visited both schools, but Northwestern doesn’t have the same feeling as sd does. I’m just unsure since i havent really looked into northwestern as much

Northwestern is one heck of a school. I’ve got a friend who goes there, and she absolutely loves it. Chicago’s a great city. Simultaneously sucks and is great that you have to make this decision. Good luck!

my best friend goes to nw, she likes the social aspect but says the classes are uninspired

then again she is a soccer player

go to nwestern—and you think the classes at UCSD will be MORE inspiring than at Northwestern?

Hey, you’re already a step ahead of me. Money is keeping me from potentially going to my dream school. If Northwestern is your little chou then by all means go there, especially if money isn’t an issue.

As much as I love UCSD, Northwestern is just bomb.

Funny. I chose UCSD over Northwestern. I was accepted to Medill. But you and I are obviously different people.

I hope you won’t let name prestige be your deciding factor. It should be where you see yourself happiest and most successful. Good luck with your decision!

Go with your gut. Just because Northwestern has the better name doesn’t mean it’ll be the better school for you. Do your research(fast!) and see which school is a better fit for you. One size does not fit all. :P

Good luck, and I hope you’re happy wherever you end up. Both are terrific schools.

question: are people admitted to majors at NU or just the schools? becos i wasn’t given any indication of what major i got into

I was only notified about the school in which I was accepted, but I applied undeclared. I wonder if it’s just self-explanatory since it’s the “School of Journalism.”
Still, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t tell you what major you got into, though. All the other private schools that I applied to (and listed a major) told me whether or not I got into that major. Maybe they’ll clarify it after you turn in a Letter of Intent?

Gosh, sorry I’m the most unhelpful person ever. :(

you’ll probably going to get sick with flu like 5x at much – hehe, whenever i call up some friends there they always have runny noses in winter and complain about how cold it is … but then again, they lived for five years in california so may be they continue to dress accordingly(?) – eventually they’ll get used to it

i know this is probably a minor factor, but it was a significant reason that kept me away from the chicago area … i found out that if the weather outside is good, I’m more inspired to attend lectures – this sounds weird – but when you wake up in crappy mood, had a nightmare or stayed up half the night or whatever, you look outside and immediately you feel better and have more energy to get up and go to school – plus san diegans probably spend more time outdoors, playing sports or catching the sun

i do not know anything about academics at northwestern – i never visited it but i would not consider it to be much better than ucsd just based on what i heard of it from friends – classes are probably just as tough – it is a much more well-known school since it has been there longer (been there over a century at least) – it is also smaller than ucsd by about 1/3 i heard

so, tough choice – if you cannot compare academics, just go by where you’d feel better living, where you’d feel more like home wrt peers and environment

where did you pick?

havent decided yet, my gut feel is ucsd but i feel in a way that i’d be giving up NU’s academic strength–also just going to NU is like venturing outside my little world, i’ll only know one person, whereas at SD i know 15. I just need some time to think heh

good luck a lot of the drama department at my school came from nu and think the world of it

thanks a lot for your input guys. i thought about it for a while, and i decided that i’m going to be going to northwestern this fall. Just when i was getting acclimatized to all you cool people =(. anyways, if you ever get to the chicago area let me know! i think you can email me through my account? meh i’ll probably be sitting around cc anyways XD thanks guys! see you around

i never helped because i had never heard of northwestern until this thread. lol. but yeah. good luck with everything and i hope you made the right decidion. what with not going to school with me and all. haha. i kidd. chi town is pretty cool from what i’ve seen.
