Hi,
I’m interested in the energy sector (Oil+Gas specifically) and would like to know what the chances are to break into that without an engineering/petroEng degree.

Im not talking about accounting or commodities trading… More like Contracting/Procurement or Supply Chain Management? Or any other business related branch?

I’ll be done with my UG degree in International Business in 2 years, and by then will be speaking German, Russian and Spanish fluently. Thats why procurement sort of made sense, but are there other related fields where multilinguality is of importance?

Estimated out of school salaries and amount of travel would be interesting, too.

Is there anybody with experience on this topic that is willing to answer me a few questions?

Best Regards!

Nope, it’s impossible to break into business related fields with a business degree.
They’re only looking for art history majors and ex (or current I guess) male asian porn stars.

Oh! Well that makes perfect sense! Thank you so much for sharing!

Oil and Gas industries hire a lot of business graduates every year. You shall check out your school’s Career Services to see who came to recruit in the past years. My son’s school, ASU, has many Oil & Gas companies come to recruit business graduates every year. My son, a SCM major, got a summer internship offer from a major International Oil company last year. He had interviews with four major oil companies this year.

Getting an internship in the field would make a big difference in getting one or more job offers for post-graduation jobs. In a pile of undifferentiated business grads, that experience would stand out.

As a totally off the wall idea, start a blog on the topic and write about industry news, particularly in areas that interest you. Start now, and you might have a little credibility by job-hunting time.
