Seems like that employment related conflict has its roots in the general trend of economic gains rewarding capital more than labor these days, so that most people who must sell their labor face a more competitive and less rewarding economic environment now compared to a generation ago. Such greater competition induces people to see others more negatively (sometimes by age, gender, ethnicity, etc.), as well as forcing some to put up with undesirable treatment or discrimination because they have no other choice, leading to buildup of simmering resentment.
I’m sorry, but there is absolutely NO equivalence between saying “blacks are inferior human beings” and “Trump/Clinton supporters are a bunch of idiots”. I am SOOOO tired of this comparison, which legitimizes racism, sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, classism, etc, because it claims that these are nothing more than legitimate political opinions.
Being angry or even hating somebody, because that person wants to harm others based on their race/religion/gender/sexual orientation, IS NOT THE SAME as hating people because they are of a different race/religion/gender/sexual orientation.
I’m sorry, but there is absolutely no way that one can truthfully claim of a bunch of middle class White supremacists chanting “Jews Will Not Replace Us!”, “some of them are good people”, because the moment a person freely chooses to march in support of this type of ideology, they have relinquished their right to be called “good”.
So your nephew who is protesting their university’s decision to allow David Duke to hold a rally on campus is NOT THE SAME as your Aunt who tells you that you that she’s worried that you have Black neighbors, because they’re probably criminals.
Your niece claiming that eating Chinese food is cultural appropriation is not the same as your uncle saying that you can’t be friends with Jews, because “you can’t trust those people”.
Your daughter’s friend who is loudly claiming that assuming the gender of a person based on their outward appearance is transphobia and discrimination, is not the same as your dad’s buddy who tells you that “gays are disgusting”, and that a good beating will teach your son’s male friend not to hold hands with his boyfriend in public.
