Ok, GRAMMYS - 2015

Only caught bits and pieces but enjoyed the music. Always find the outfits entertaining.

It’s okay mom of a wild child if you want to refer directly to my post instead of using " people "

No I didn’t watch the show , but I did see it on Today Show and read some follow up articles on a couple of online news sources , all of which reported Kanye’s post stunt remarks where he didn’t back down and claims he wasn’t joking.

Yes, but he didn’t take the mic or interrupt or force his opinion on anyone. It probably was insulting to Beck, but he later called Kanye a visionary so I guess he wasn’t too insulted.

Oh! And I think Pharrell is ADORABLE in his shorts suit!!! He said on the red carpet that his clothes are his line by Adidas - he can pull it off.

While I don’t understand why we are still awarding “Happy” in 2015, his performance was a cute tongue in cheek at his own song. I enjoyed that. I really like him!

But I did read this this morning and did not take note of it during the performance - Pharrell and his hooded dancers referenced the “hands up” movement:

News report this morning said that Tom Petty sued Sam Smith for copyright violation. Smith and co. agreed to a settlement which includes a songwriting credit and 12% of all royalties to Petty.

^^^^^^Yes, that news broke late January.

Yes, old news.

I have to say that I don’t see the 'sameness" to the two songs. They both sound different to me. I guess I don’t have an ear for music.

^^^there was no real argument that there were notable similarities.

Sounds like a pretty amicable situation all around.

“Rihanna was very good but that song is just odd to me - the type of music for that trio - and the Paul McCartney mess up threw it off even more”

What McCartney “mess up” are you referring to?

I dislike “Only One” (nice autotune, Kanye) but I do like “FourFive Seconds” (the Rihanna/Kanye/McCartney) - musically you can hear the melodic McCartney influence in that one way more.

And this is just me (certified Beatlemaniac) but I love at the beginning of the Rihanna video, that the guitar player appears to be a righty and then he turns around and you can see it’s a lefty which signals McCartney. I think this is a detail only an obsessive like me would get excited about!

@Pizzagirl, last night people were saying that McCartney’s vocal mike wasn’t on, thus the “McCartney mess.”

McCartney wasn’t intended to be a singer on either song, though. He was keyboards on Only One and guitar on FourFive Seconds. For whatever reason, he only wants to accompany, not sing, with these collaborations.

But he was moving his lips in song - we just couldn’t hear him!

Right - you can’t take the music out of the man :-). He doesn’t sing on the recording. So it wasn’t as if he was “supposed” to sing and the mike got turned off. He never was supposed to sing on the song.

Personally (not that Sir Paul is anxiously awaiting my opinion) I’m fine that McCartney collaborated with Rihanna as an artist but I think Kanye is beneath his stature. I think he’s trash. You’ve heard the question he asked McCartney at the iheartradio press conference? I can’t repeat it here. Classless, boorish, and a flash in the pan.

I don’t understand the Kanye thing. He doesn’t sound great, his voice is so digitally altered. Yet he apparently is the king, has won a ton of Grammys and everyone bows down to him. He’s an arrogant jerk who I have no desire to listen to. Who does? What is appealing about him at all?

When Kanye pulled his stunt on Taylor Swift, he later said that Taylor’s mom stomped over to him, completely furious, and gave him a huge piece of her mind. Apparently she said something about his mother-maybe is that how she raised you, or perhaps your mother would be furious if this happened to you-and that he was immediately ashamed. He said when Taylor’s mom brought his mother into it, he couldn’t argue with her because she was absolutely right.

He’s capable of realizing his mistakes, but it doesn’t seem he has enough people in his life willing to keep him real. Too many yes men is a bad thing in the life of a celebrity.

I like Kanye’s music, and I think I’d like him personally. I wish he would learn to control his frustrations with the industry and the powers that be. Before the show he said he would work within the system to change the system, then, when Beck won, he went back to his impulsive behavior.

Is Kanye musically talented? I had little idea.

Really, is he talented? With his digitally reworked songs, who gets the credit, him or the computer? Do they even sound good to most people?
