ok so how do you screen out " farmville" et al on FB?

:p
I am involved with a volunteer organization that has members all over the world & I recently am partially in charge of a fairly large project through it. As a result, I am " friending", many people I would not otherwise- and for the most part, hasn’t been a problem…except some I am finding are spending much of their day on farmville- or mafia land etc.

I really don’t care to know just how much time they are spending on these activities.

Is there someway I can disengage from just that part?

I don’t read manuals & my patience for fiddling with facebook is limited- I also restrict permission from outside applications- but I still find it a useful tool- but I really wish there was more modifiers.

On the flip side however- I recently reconnected with someone I was friends with about 35 years ago- and it was like none of that time had passed. It was very rewarding to be able to say hi & to apologize for being a jerk-

Click on the “x” on the right side of one of the Farmville posts. You will then get to choose whether you hide farmville, or the friend.

^^^I was so glad when someone else a while back explained to me how to hide the Farmville (and other games) news updates and posts on FB!!

emerald…follow 3bm103’s advice. However, since Farmville is not the only “game” that puts out those posts/updates in newsfeeds and on friends’ walls, you have to click to the right side of any “game” type post and then choose “hide X game” (whichever game it is). So, for example, if you only hide Farmville posts, you’ll still see Treasure Island or Mafia (or whatever all these games are called that I have no clue what they are as I have never seen or played them). So, you have to choose “hide” for each game. Just hiding Farmville doesn’t hide the others. So, as these game playing friends discover new games, those posts start appearing and so click on those posts and choose “hide” that particular game.

thanks- I just painstakingly went through all my privacy and account settings- ( which they just changed cause FB added places :stuck_out_tongue: ), but that didn’t hide the farmville/mafia wars

I do not get that stuff

Thankfully someone I friended a while back posted instructions for hiding all those games. Not my cup of tea, but I guess some people spend A LOT of time on that stuff. Honestly, if I played all those games, how would I have time for CC?

emeraldkity…this is not part of the privacy settings. That is why it didn’t hide the games for you.

Go to your newsfeed. Find a friend who has a post from Farmville. Click on the right side of that post from the game (example: maybe it is a picture of an animal). A message will come up that lets you choose if you want to hide the friend’s posts OR if you want to hide all posts about Farmville. Pick “hide farmville”. Then, if you see posts from some other game, like Petville, Mafia, Treasure, Island, etc., click to the right of the post/picture about the game which will bring up a window that lets you choose if you want to hide all posts about that game or just hide all posts by that friend. Choose to hide all posts from that game.

This is not in the privacy settings.

I have one “friend” whom I don’t actually know (don’t normally do this, but there was a reason), and she must find and start playing several new games a week. It’s absolutely amazing how many she is into.

Those, and the quizzes, and the “X has sent you a fill-in-the-blank gift” posts all require constant attention to hide them all.

I don’t get an x on mine to click - it used to be that when you hovered over the name on the post it gave you the option to hide stuff. Now (on mine anyway) you have to slowly move your cursor to the right of the poster’s name until the cursor becomes a hand. then click and it will give you options of hiding that person or hiding the application (farmville etc).

soozie has the right advice. I would just add that you don’t see the little X unless you actually mouse over the spot. Then the X will pop up. What swimcatsmom is describing is correct.

Then you have to repeat it for each game! But it does work. I’ve hidden all sorts of quizzes and stuff.

You can also hide people! If someone is really annoying you, do that. Use the same method. You’re still the person’s friend, but their posts won’t show up in your newsfeed. And the person won’t know that you’ve hidden them.

I think CC is my Farmville! I’m just glad FB doesn’t send out an update every time I post on CC :D

_ _ _ like_ _ _

I think I did that once before- but I must have deleted my preferences or something because they started up again.
But now is fixed.
:)

I do notice that sometimes, things that I’ve hidden are visible again. I chalk that up to one of the many Facebook mysteries. And actually, PRJ, CC is on Facebook, but I haven’t joined up yet. Don’t want to blow my undercover identity! :)

^^ I was just comparing the amount of time I spend on CC with other people’s obsession with Farmville, etc. If my FB friends got an update every time I posted here on CC, they’d be incredulous!

And I thought Farmville was a city in Virginia.
