Evertime I read a thread…it seems like…“yeah ur a great student if you got into Medill and McCormmick.” and people talked about how much easier it is to get into Weinberg. I was feeling good about myself for getting into Northwestern period…is Weinberg like the worst college?

No. As far as average SAT score goes, Weinberg is behind McCormick only.

Oh. The Medill kids are sure good at making everyone else feel really bad lol. One person said it was much easier to switch from Medill to Weinberg than the other way around…so ur saying it’s not because of rigor right? Is it just a space thing?

Yea…they try to preserve the quality of the program but having only limited number of students. It’s more about space than caliber.

I dont care. I’m going to Weinberg because I am going to major in chem. Not chem e, but chem because I hear NU has one of the best chem program.s

(if anyone has a link or experience to backup my previous statement it would put my mind at ease lol thanks)

http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/stories/2006/02/gates.html

Two of the four Gates Cambridge Scholars from NU are chemistry majors. ;)

I’m a Gates Millennium Scholarship finalist lol Maybe I’ll go after that one too after college lol

Stop complaining, SESP gets more **** than WCAS- you will find that out if you come here.

And the organic chemistry program here is THE hardest and most rigorous in the country. The chem department here is wonderful.

Thanks dfleish and Sam Lee, I’ll take your word for it. :)

Wait, Medill is the hardest? I’m still not sure how I got in. My senior year grades were pathetic. I got my first C and the rest were B’s.

No…someone said McCormick is the hardest, then Weinberg then the others follows in terms of grades and SAT scores. Medill just acepts less students

no, Medill’s SAT scores are not higher than Weinberg’s.

keenya2006, it’s hard to get into NU. Period. You got into Weinberg, and that is an amazing accomplishment. Don’t let someone shooting his or her mouth off on CC take the joy out of that for you. There is no “worst” college at NU and, from what I’ve seen, students there have all kinds of respect for each other no matter what they are studying. My daughter is at NU, and has found people there to be remarkably supportive, cooperative, and inclusive.

There are some programs at NU where enrollment is limited, as Sam Lee pointed out. People get into those programs and stay put, because that’s where they want to be. Engineering (although I know the least about that) and journalism are two such programs. Theater is another for similar reasons, and because it truly is a four year curriculum.

You can compare stat averages between schools and programs, but it won’t tell you much about why those people are in those particular programs. It sounds to me like you’ve landed in the perfect place for you, where you can explore and thrive.

Weinberg is the backbone of the undergraduate curriculum and experience at NU in general. Other schools and programs feed off of it and build on it. Being in one rather than another is almost entirely a matter of interest, and not very much a matter of aptitude or ability. If Northwestern didn’t want you they didn’t have to take you in any school.

Because Weinberg is the most encompassing of NU’s undergraduate units, it tends to attract more people who choose it as a default than McC or Medill or even SESP. Those programs tend to be a little more focused and attract a more self-selected student. The best in any of NU’s schools are talented and equal to the best in any other NU school.
