Okay School, Great Program vs. Great School, Okay Program

I was a Radio/TV/Film major at Rowan University for two years. After my sophomore year, I transferred to TCNJ. The program is a lot better at Rowan but TCNJ definitely has a better reputation as a school. So which do you think is better- an amazing school with an okay program or a good school with a great program?

I also had a really high GPA at Rowan, was on Dean’s List, and was invited to join an honor society. My GPA isn’t as high at TCNJ, but is still decent and will probably go up in the coming semesters. Which looks better on paper?

Not sure how it looks on paper is what matters: GPA is probably not the major variable in getting work in radio/tv/film. What is likely to matter more is what you are doing around your degree- depending on where your interests lie, your internships, the work you create, etc.- and the contacts you make. And, given the industries involved, a certain amount of serendipity.

I think the question is - what are you going to do with this information? Are you weighing the possibility of transferring back to Rowan, or are you definitely going to stay at TCNJ?

I’m definitely going to stay at TCNJ. There is no way I could go back to Rowan and still graduate on time, I am also taking a lot more classes for my major this semester that I really enjoy. Above all else, TCNJ has a far better reputation. I think I need to stop torturing myself and realize what a great school I am attending and what an amazing degree I am going to have next year.
