Interesting case in Missouri. A homeowner is claiming Castle Doctrine immunity for shooting an unarmed man who may, or may not, have been trespassing. Rural area, and the shooting was not near the residence. Why Castle Doctrine rather than SYG? Beats me. Here is a news report contemporary with the killing:

^the shooter in your link Newhope is a pretty scary looking guy.

seems some paranoid/angry/unstable folks are using “self defense” when there is no defense even needed. my concern is that these laws give some of these folks psychological “permission” to shoot. while they may ultimately be convicted for murder, the fact remains another innocent person is dead.

Is this really how we want to live in this country?

And that’s from an Oakland city councilman, no less. Surreal as a cat barking and Oakland’s only #7 on the list:

Oops, hard to find a clean source for rankings (googling got me a slew determined to show Chicago didn’t make it, though) so here’s another:

Oakland’s #3, here.

Al Sharpton’s not best known for saying the right thing but I doubt that Oakland councilman would fault him for this:

(I will admit I’m only guessing he isn’t speaking only to the George Zimmermans of the country.)

An interesting read, though I just skimmed it. The societal driver seems a more intuitive explanation (the gun they had didn’t make those deadends go look for Chris Lane).

On a lighter note: that Miley Cyrus reads the country as being ripe for another iteration of Madonna suggests it’ll get worse before it gets better.

Romanigypsyeyes, the ACLU should stay out of this. The kid killed in cold blood and had the nerve to return to school like that, as if what he did was no crime.

People like that are menaces to society. They should be punished one way or another and perhaps the death penalty is the best punishment. Even misbehaving children who just act rude and such would not dare cross such a line as to kill an absolutely random person. For a person, a teenager no less, to kill a random person must mean the kid has some serious problem. He’s no teenager or person. He’s a sociopath, a nutcase, a threat to society.
