Old Printer Not Compatible with New Laptop/Windows 7

Got a new laptop–finally–but our fairly new (3 years old) HP printer is not compatible with its operating system which is Window 7. Loaded the printer software…said it wasn’t compatible. Really don’t want to buy a new printer. Is there another way?

You have to have the printer software? Why? Usually, you don’t need it. Most printer/all-in-one software I’ve found is just superfluous. It’s not necessary to actually use the printer.

Have you plugged the printer in and checked to see if your computer picks it up? Just open a word document and click print. Your should be able to select your printer.

I moved from a HP to a Macbook last month and had no problem getting my all-in-one to function with it. Just plugged it in, checked my print options and tested the basic scanning software that comes equipped on almost all standard computers. Worked fine.

I just didn’t bother with the software. It was clunky and annoying.

Anyway, try your printer without the software. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

HP missed the Windows 7 launch with a lot of their printer drivers (there were a number of articles on it a while ago). You should go to HP’s website and look for the updated drivers for Windows 7 for your printer.

I had to download a new driver for my HP printer when I upgraded to Windows 7. Just go to the HP website and look up drivers.
