Olivia Wilde at Andover!!!

I bet most of you don’t know that Olivia Wilde graduated from Andover in 2002 (and neither did I until a few minutes ago) and that she went back there to give a speech as an alma mater!!! I got rejected from PA last year, so you can imagine how green with envy I am that the kids there got to see an awesome actress, who was spectacular in the movie Butter if I do say so myself. Anyway, I didn’t apply there this year, but thought it was so cool that she went there and then came back to give a speech. With no makeup on!! le gasp ■■■■■■■■ boarding school tags on Tumblr is fun :D

The school I’m going to next year had both Helena Bonham Carter (an alumna) and Boris Johnson, mayor of London, speaking one week! I’m just hoping they’ll be back when I’m there :)

I actually though didn’t know who Olivia Wilde was until I googled her and realized that she was in Butter which I just saw a week ago  Its really cool that she went back to give a speech!

I have no idea who you’re talking about, but it sounds cool! :)

@UKgirl23 Oh that’s cool, what school do you go to?

@AmbiD77 Wasn’t Butter great? The reason I saw it was because 1) It had Ashley Greene in it–yes, I’m a Twilight fan–I actually saw the movie on her Wikipedia and was curious about it, 2) Ty Burrell was in it! OMG moment, he’s in Modern Family as Phil and I looove him, so of course I had to see him in Butter!!! Yeah, she gave a speech and, as I emphasized before, no makeup!!! Takes balls.

@GoldenRatio Just google ‘Olivia Wilde Andover speech’ or put Andover in the Tumblr tag and you could probably find the post with some pictures of her at the speech.

^ I see “Ashley Greene” and “Twilight,” and all else flies out the window  Just kidding! I should see “Butter” soon, shouldn’t I? Definitely piqued my interest…

No makeup? Wow, that’s gutsy! I’ve never seen a celebrity without makeup; that says a lot about our society, doesn’t it?

It does, here I’ll put the link to the post’s here: http://rainbowcoaster.■■■■■■■■■■/post/42995000717/a-wilde-handful-olivia-spoke-at-her-alma-mater</a>, http://ilovebluemuffin.■■■■■■■■■■/post/43041586360/a-wilde-handful-olivia-on-her-andover-visit</a></p>

And I actually watched Butter online, despite the quality being less than I would’ve liked, I thought it was really good! You can find it on 1channel.ch :D

@bsrox Westminster in the UK :)

@bsroxmysox it really was!!! I love Ashley green but I can’t stand twilight hahaha, Butter was such a good movie!

@AmbiD77 Yeah, seems like not many people genuinely like Twilight. What I do is listen to their actual reasons, then refute. Like, “vampires don’t sparkle” or “it’s stupid” makes no sense because no one made vampires sparkling illegal. And yeah, Ashley Greene is pretty awesome  She really made Alice (okay sorry, Twilight moment) come to life.

@bsroxmysox actually I agree with you she did make Alice come to life!! I read the Twilight series and the only thing that made me read it was Alice  she is a great character!

@bsrox I can give you many good, valid reasons for not liking Twilight. Such as boring, cliche characters, annoying narrative and set gender roles. I know we’re going off topic here…

^ Yet, we cannot deny the urge to cuddle up with a book like that. It might be cliche, but it’s satisfying; it’s comparable to the Disney movies that we all used to frolic to as children.

^ I never watched Disney movies. Still only seen 3 or 4. I enjoyed reading Twilight when it first came out and I was about 11, but gone off it a bit since then! That’s the only reason I still read YA books at all, but I’ve managed to limit it to only decent ones :)

@UKgirl23:

:) I started reading Twilight when I was 11 as well! By the way, what is your definition of a decent YA book? I need something to read!

Anything by John Green or Lauren Oliver, the Graceling trilogy, Divergent, 13 Reasons Why, the original Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle series by LJ Smith (the recent revivals are awful though), Across the Universe and Unwind. Mostly I like fantasy and dystopia :)

My personal favorite teen novels would be Catcher in the Rye by J.R. Salinger, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald, Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Animal Farm by George Orwell. All of these books are must-reads for any teenager.

CellyZ, personally, I am always reluctant to read any classics; I find them too grandiose and superfluous. Then again, that writing style describes mine to a T, so maybe I should try it.

Also, I hate to sound superficial, but the cramped text and thick spines also puts me off. But I have read Animal Farm by George Orwell  that’s about it, though…

UKgirl23, I like fantasy and dystopia as well! Sadly, I’ve already read most of the books on your list :frowning: except for Unwind and 13 Reasons Why, so I guess it’s another trip to the library for me!

I love all the John Green books!

GoldenRatio, I used to think that way too! Try reading Catcher in the Rye. It starts pretty slow, but once you get into it you can’t tear yourself away from it.

The issue with the classics, or more accurately the reason why it turn people away, is because it’s hard to get into. However, the absolute magic of them is that the moment that you allow yourself to delve into the book the complexity and unparalleled tale it spins greatly overshadows and grandiose or superfluous qualities it may posses.

I don’t really like the saying don’t judge a book by its cover, I think it’s more accurate to say don’t judge a book until you understand why someone else would like it.
