Olympiad

Would being on the Canadian Math Olympiad team be an excellent EC even though the Canadian team isn’t that good??
And is it worth it even though i can’t take Harvard Summer School Courses because of strict rules??

Harvard Summer School will not increase your chances of getting into Harvard. As a generalization, any summer program that requires substantial amounts of money to attend will not increase your chances of getting into college.

As for being on the Canadian Math Olympiad, I doubt that it would improve your chances that much more as you are applying as an international. Try making International Math Olympiad and then winning a medal.

Being on the Canadian Math Olympiad team would mean you’d got to the IMO. It would be a pretty amazing achievement, even if you don’t medal. If you do, that’s brilliant obviously, but I think anyone capable of doing those 4 1/2 papers is very very good indeed.

lol, r u kidding…that’s an excellent EC. go for it and good luck!

Be careful. Don’t ride on your participation in IMO - there have been a few domestic students who have received gold medals and still were rejected.

Should i go to harvard for the summer or go to the imo?

IMO, definitely, no question. Harvard doesn’t care about the summer school and even if it did, the IMO is an amazing thing to do. Sod Harvard, that’ll be landing you top jobs when graduate!

Yeah, definitely do IMO. Harvard doesn’t accept every Canadian math olympiad star, but it will certainly care about that much more than about attending Harvard summer school.
