Olympic torch relay--have any other CCers been torch bearers?

News of the London torch relay starting today made me think about this, My dad and I were both torchbearers (an “inspirational team”) for the 2002 (Salt Lake) relay. I think I appreciate it more now that I’m older, as I was 13 at the time, and I realize that it’s pretty cool to be able to say I’ve carried the Olympic torch and even more special to be able to share my memory with my dad. :)

Any others CCers carried the torch or know someone who has?

I haven’t had this opportunity, but I just wanted to say that’s awesome psych_. What an amazing memory.

I wasn’t a torch bearer, but in the runup to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the torch came right through our neighborhood and we were all on the street watching–it was a really cool thing to see, and must have been immeasurably cooler to be the bearer–that’s something you will never forget.

Also not a torchbearer, but we also had the torch come through our neighborhood–they did a passing it from one to the next runner ceremony in front of a house that turned out to be the home of a very elderly former Olympian. It was a neat moment!

The husband of my dearest friend was a torch bearer for the Atlanta Olympics. It was really cool. We didn’t get to see him in person, but we did see pictures.
