Is anyone watching? I watched some of the swimming and the gymnastics are on now. Such fun!
My son is going to Omaha this week to watch his high school swim teammate compete. Very exciting!!
Just watched Simone Biles - I don’t think she can be human - that was amazing on the mat!!! WOW!
Swimming
yes. swimming. love it. spent many an hour inhaling that chlorine smell, LOL.
Did I ever tell y’all my son swam against Michael Phelps?
Okay, okay, it was 15-18 and my son was 15 and like in the first of 4 heats while Michael was 18 and had already been to the Olympics once and dominated the last heat and everyone in it. This was regular old club swimming when Phelps was at North Baltimore.
Watching.
My kid was a swimmer who swam against Maya Dirado, who is a lovely young woman who just made the Olympic team today! So excited for her and her family! She announced prior to Trials that whether she made the team or not she would retire at the end of the season to start her “real” life in consulting in Atlanta.
Yes, watching swimming tonight on TV and watched the live stream this morning. Several locals swimming at Trials. So exciting! 200 men’s free tomorrow has 2 from the area in the top 12.
Literally just came on CC to talk about this.
I just happened to turn it on right before she started and had to call everyone in the house to watch a replay of it. I am utterly in awe.
Are trials usually this close to the Olympics? It seems like they should already have the teams set. Maybe individual sports are different from team sports.
I swam on a team with Lance Armstrong. I was slower. :).
Also watching Gabby Douglas was a little heartbreaking. She just seemed to not be quite all there which is unfortunate since she’s such an amazing talent. I hope everything is OK.
@romanigypsyeyes, here is an article with some background about the timing of the gymnastics. The women’s trials are actually not for another two weeks - very close to the Olympics.

Loved seeing a kid from our former church swimming in the finals for 400 IM. He managed to come in 4th place, just behind Ryan Lochte. Have known his family since before he was born, and it is exciting to see him make it to olympic trials.
Love the whole olympic experience, and wish it could really stay focused on the spirit of the athletes. In a way, seeing the swimmers as they realize their dream to qualify for the olympic team seems almost better than the actual olympic competition.
@oneofthosemoms thank you for that!
Oh, that poor girl on the balance beam. That must have hurt.
Living for the gymnastics and enjoying the swimming, too. I hope Laurie Hernandez makes the team because she’s so entertaining to watch. I always like the athletes who bring joy to the sport.
yeah, wow
