Olympic trials

“The order of events is always the same. Right? No matter where you are, what level you are.”

Yes, but as I said, this is not an age group meet. There are no 8 and under free final, 10-12 free final, 13-14 free final, etc. Plus, the age group meets happen over one weekend, tops, which means there are A LOT of finals in one day… so longer breaks.
Just my frustration at the scheduling, as usual…

Fingers crossed for Dana Vollmer, the sixth place finisher in the 100 free, that she will be selected as the alternate for the relay.

Oh no… Usain Bolt. :frowning:

Ben true is a runner from our small town. He’s expected to qualify for the Olympics, but he came in 11th in the 10,000 m. :frowning: He’ll run the 5,000 m tomorrow. I hope he makes it. He’s a good guy. His wife is expected to qualify in triathlon.

So is anything being shown today? Anymore swimming?

Track!

I was amazed at how athletes’ bodies are different according to the sports they play. After watching swimming for several days, and compared to the shot put guys, the 10,000m runners look so frail that they look like they are blown away by the wind!

Am I the only one who’s really really tired of Michael Phelps?

There is a wonderful family story going on in the throwing events. Google Crouser. Cousin Ryan is going to Rio on the shot put. Cousin Sam made the finals to throw on July 4th to make the team in javelin… His Sister Haley will try soon after in the prelims in javelin. A generation earlier the three brothers held all kind of records in throwing events including Olympic teams . Oregon isn’t just track town for running.

No, I share your exhaustion…

I’m not tired of him at all. He’s an incredible athlete and his story is one that merits attention.

I would love to hear more variety of stories. There are so many athletes at the swimming trials, and we only hear about the already famous ones.

Also want to see the entire field racing, especially when the leader is way ahead. I understand that you need to focus on the leaders as you get towards the end of the race, but we have had our friend cut out of the screen in all his races. And he has finished well, placing no lower than fourth place in every race.

The order of events for swimming trials is supposed to be the same as the Olympic schedule, without the relays.

We have so enjoyed watching trials, especially the younger swimmers who are shocked to qualify. Such a joyful moment for them and their families. My daughter met Phelps 6 years ago. She said he was really big.

Powercropper, read SwimSwam. Really, really good recap of the races, both the newbies and the oldies get the same exposure.

My hat is off to Anthony Ervin!!!

The order of events is dictated by FINA, as I understand it, and every friggin age group meet follows it (been there, timed many of those). Here is the deal about trials… The vast majority of the top OT hopeful swim untapered, so if they do qualify, they have the time to get into their peak form in 6 or so weeks. Different strokes…

I agree with LasMa. Even though I am in awe of what Phelps has accomplished, I really just don’t need to hear any more stories about him. I have the double whammy since Michigan considers him one of their own.

To those who are tired of hearing about same old, same old… Have you heard of Anya? SwimSwam dedicated a separate story to her race:

I think Phelps has stayed around for do long partly because his life falls apart if he is not swimming competitively. I wonder what (if anything) he will find to replace it – at some point he has to move on.

Intparent, he is now a father and a husband… He WILL be busy…

Yeah… but that is still not the same as training every day. I worry about him.
