Olympics 2018

So sad, watching my little cousin come in 4th, when she has been doing so well.

Anyway, I love the Olympics. Anyone else?

Well, she’s secured her spot.

I’m sorry @bookworm but what is your cousin competing in? I think I missed something.

So exciting that she qualified. I love the Olympics also. I really like the winter ones. In the summer, we are busy doing stuff so don’t see as much as winter. It’s fun to see things like biathlon and curling. I do miss the days I lived near Canada and got to see their coverage. More sports, less fluff

Oh wow!!! Congrats. That is cool. Did I recall it correctly that she competed in Sochi?

Half pike. She performed an amazing trick last week, but was off last nite. Still, the family will be going. Her brother couldn’t compete cuz of an injury. It was 4 years ago that I bored the CC crowd with the sloshy pipe in Russia. I know I get nuts, staying up late at nite to watch the competitions.

I love all the ice skating and many other winter sports.

Congrats on your cousin. Although I am terrified of actually diving, I like watching it. I took lessons as a young teen and hated the feeling of hitting the water.

I will miss watching this year’s Olympics with S17 as he will be away. Last time, I am a bit ashamed to confess, we both fell in love with the Russian National anthem. It’s a very moving piece of music.

^Ugh, I didn’t think about it until I read your post that it will be the first time I’ve watched the Olympics in a long time without a kid!

We will be on a cruise and miss the first few days of the Olympics. :frowning: Bad planning.

OMG.

We have a family friend who grew up with my kids and was in the same small Nordic ski club who is the top US women’s Nordic skier this year. She finished 4th in a World Cup race this week, so is peaking at the right time. The US women are strong this year – a lot of top 10 finishes and multiple podium finishes by different individuals in World Cup this season. Rooting hard for them next month!

I’m pretty sure i saw that Nordic race @intparent that the American finished 4th and it was crazy. I am excited to see how the American women do.

@bookworm very exciting for your cousin. I could be wrong but I think there was an autocorrect and her cousin is competing in the half pipe, which is snowboarding. I’m pretty sure there is no diving in the Winter Olympics.

Oooh, I am an Olympics junkie. So excited that I have somewhat of a connection @bookworm (in the South, we are not known for our prowess in winter sports). Will definitely be watching half pipe!

I think it’s great that Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir will be the commentators for figure skating!!

@#7

I just hope you are not objectifying a hardworking and talented athlete.

I think he has chosen to objectify himself. He’s a bit of a showboat.

Good for him for qualifying in both summer and winter olympics. It always amazes me how true athletes are so adaptable to many sports.

I have a neighbor participating in bobsled and there’s another kid from the mountain on the moguls team. Pretty cool!

is there any coverage you can purchase? An app or anything?

I’m like John Oliver talking about the FIFA world cup…

The Olympics are corrupt to the core. My favorite sports, figure skating and gymnastics, are among the worst offenders.

AND

I’m SO EXCITED for the Olympics! I can’t wait!

Me too. Years ago, my former SIL got us tix to watch the figure skaters after the fact. They didn’t do the fanciest of jumps, but it was so great to see the performers up close.

And yes, my young cousins were both in Olympics in Russia. I posted frequently about the empty hotels and the conditions. I am so hoping to have happier news this time around. I am a junkie. Hanna, I don’t know about all the corruptions.

I love the Olympics! Here is a schedule: https://www.nbcolympics.com/full-schedule

My D lived in Korea for nearly three years and she is having a hard time listening to the mispronunciation of the host city. Don’t ask me to spell it, but she has taught me the correct way to say it!

“I just hope you are not objectifying a hardworking and talented athlete.”

Have you ever tired cross-country ski racing? That is one tough sport. For this guy from a country that has not seen a snowflake to qualify for the Olympics - wow, hence the OMG. My hat is off to him. Cool dude.
