Olympics 2018

Last nights hair piece was definately part of an “outfit.”

If you’ve ever listened to any sports talk radio or TV show, people argue all the time over what is or isn’t a sport. That’s part of our sports culture. Shuffleboard on ice displays little to no athletism and is not deserving of an Olympic medal IMSO (In My Silly Opinion). ;))

Heck, cardio and strength training are new to the “sport,” since the 2014 OIympics. That says something right there. Imagine if Lindsey Vonn, Chloe Kim, Mirai Nagasu, etc. didn’t do intensive physical training to prepare them for their events.

As for the IOC, and FIFA for that matter too, they are corrupt organizations. And they have taken advantage of countries for far too long. I have no idea who’s paying them to keep curling as an Olympic “sport.”

Curling should be reassigned under the category of “Cruise Ship Activities.” :-j

I’m looking forward to watching the Paralympics in a couple of weeks. A friend’s son is on the national sledge hockey team and has been participating with them for about 15 years now. Canada is sending 55 athletes to the Paralympics this year to participate in the five winter games disciplines. Competition begins on March 9th!

You just want to fight about whether it is a sport. We aren’t interested in arguing about it.

Events in the ancient Greek Olympic games included a contest for heralds and trumpeters, so it’s hard to get too upset about whether curling is a legitimate sport when the ancient inventors of the Olympic games considered yelling loudly and horn blowing to be worthy events.

I know people who like to blow their own horn loudly. :-?

@marilyn - when the Olympics were in Los Angeles in 1984 some of the equestrian events were held in San Diego.

I heard synchronized skating is being considered to be added to next winter olympics - that would be interesting.

I had two simple observations from watching the Olympics. One was that the USA women’s hockey game was the most exciting hockey game that I’ve ever watched. And curling isn’t a sport. And then @intparent posted:

Seriously, I’m the one arguing? :-? Recreationist history. I sure can’t wait for the Summer Olympics in 2020. :D/

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Remember, this is not a debate society. Please steer away from discussing the legitimacy of curling as an Olympic sport.

When the Olympics were in Atlanta, the horse events were in a different state (either NC or SC). My friends who lived in Atlanta went and really liked it, and didn’t even have to ‘go down’ to Atlanta to be part of the Olympics (and the traffic)

Enjoyed the link to the Johnny and Tara slideshow posted up-thread. I think Johnny was wearing a different pair of shoes/boots with each outfit. He probably had two or three suitcases dedicated to footwear!

Lol — Jessie Diggins & Kikkan Randall will be on Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me this week. A couple of months Paula Poundstone made a joke about US Women’s cross country being too busy texting and never winning anything. A mistake on her part. The team made a kind of funny video in response to her. And now they will have the last laugh.

And I heard they got to meet the Hamilton cast in New York.

Or the Hamilton cast got to meet them!

Thought those who had followed this thread might like to see an article on what Jessie Diggins has been doing since the Olympics ended. They had a parade for her today in Stillwater MN (where we used to live), and it snowed 10" in the area today. Fitting for a winter Olympian! And her speaking fees have gone way up, at least for the moment…

Wishing our ski hero (and apparently the only mom competing for the US in the 2018 games) a speedy recovery:

I wish her the best. One of my sons-in-law knows her husband. It’s so unfortunate that the move to BC didn’t happen sooner, and as they had originally planned.
