OMG I Spelled Santa Claus Wrong in my Common App Essay!

Santa Clause…

I legitimately checked it over a million times. They’re gonna think I’m stupid. Everyone knows how to spell Santa Claus!!!

But seriously, will they think I didn’t care enough to spend time editing?

$5 says the adcom officer wont even notice. For 2 seconds (which about the same time the person will read that word) I legitimately thought that was how you spelled Santa Claus. You’re fine. Go play some videos and kill any worry you might have left.

Unless somebody wrote another essay about santa claus and has the same stats as you
VERY UNLIKELY

you will be fine

=DDDDDDDDDDDdd maybe they’ll accept me for mentioning it in the first place

Really now? It doesn’t matter unless you applied to North Pole University.

I’m betting no one notice, either. In fact, isn’t that movie with Tim Allen called, “Santa Clause”?
If you’d have written “Santa Claws”, you may have had a problem.

I think you have a bigger concern here that you’re missing. You MIGHT not get any presents this year!!!

JK - this is NO BIGGIE. When I first read your post I actually thought you had it in reverse. I kept thinking…“But, wait…you DID spell it correctly…Claus”. But I reread and noticed that was NOT your spelling. FYI…when I was typing Claus (and I KNOW how to spell it) - my fingers put an E on the end anyway. Because THAT is what our fingers what to do. We type the word becausE all the time…and it’s hard to stop our fingers (trust me…I type about 8 hours a day). So it’s a VERY common thing, and spell check wouldn’t find it either probably (except I’m thinking it wouldn’t like the fact that the word Clause was capitalized in the middle of a sentence). Anyway - truly NO worries!

I doubt the admissions counselor/committee will give it much thought. It’s not like you said Satan Claus or Santa Claws (as mentioned above). Believe me, that’s far better than a lot of the things they end up reading. I am curious however… how was Santa involved in your essay to begin with? (I’m betting he wasn’t an inspiring historical figure or something of that nature, so my interest is piqued)

^hahahah Satan Claus

anyway, I didn’t know it was spelled “Clause” either! I always spelt it “Clause”! Haha you learn something new everyday…

you’ll be fine. no doubt. the admissions officer won’t even notice.

You’re lucky with that one. Santa Claus is so common that readers don’t even see the mistake, even when when they’re looking for it. Ever see those spoofs about trying to spot the mistake and you can’t find it?

Haha! Get it?

lol, I was using it in some strange analogy.

& =O I did apply to North Pole U… ='( there goes my shot at being one of Santa’s helpers

Yo, I saw Santa yesterday and I shot him in the stomach. Didn’t know he’d die! I thought he’s a spirit. Oh, well.

I just noticed that when listing the classes I took/am taking senior year, I spelled “studies” as “seudies.” Oops.

lol, I bet everyone messed up somewhere without even realizing it

They probably will think …

1) Spell check auto-corrected the spelling of Claus

2) It’s a cultural thing…maybe your culture spells it that way. LOL
