I wanted to make some cookies before the boys got home today. I always follow the recipe on the package of semi sweet chocolates, but it always come our too burnt, too soft, too puffy. So, I went searching and thought I’d give this a try although it sounded strange. They are fantastic. They got done just as DS got home. I’m was skeptical, but we both decided these were the best we have ever had…they were perfect. I used guarandelli semi sseet chips and 1 cup of walnuts.
Do not be put off…you will not taste the oatmeal, lemon juice or cinnamon . I have also never made a cookie this large…ice cream scoop size. Believe me, I was skeptical about everything in this recipe. I did 14 minutes…perfect.
I need to qualify this…I didn’t follow the directions exactly. Mine made 43 cookies, so I guess I didn’t make them 1/4 rounded cup. But they are big enough.
I’m not sure what the lemon is supposed to do, but you don’t taste it, nor the oatmeal. DH said he could taste the cinnamon, but he couldn’t tell what it was.
I do use a parchment sheet. Actually it’s quite different from the Neiman Marcus. That one uses 2.5 cups of oats…this one .5 cups of oats. NM uses 1.5 cups chips, this one uses 3 cups.
from what I can see, most CC cookies use basically the same ingredients, but vary on how much…or this and that added. I just really love the consistency of this cookie…and the taste of course. I’m not sure I would use the cinnamon again…I’m not sure what that is for.
Ha, I remember when the neiman marcus cookie was making the rounds with the ground oatmeal. I didn’t really like it. But I was looking at a choco chip recipe from the Flour Bakery cookbook and she uses near the Toll House recipe bu part bread flour to make the cookie chewier and a little grated milk chocolate which caramelizes. Oh and of course she uses higher end 62% choco chips, which I have.
conmama, I just made them…they are fantastic ! They are a little puffier which I prefer over the flattened cookies I usually end up with. Let me say too, that I have tried many chocolate chip cookie recipes that claim to be the best …I have to agree with you on this one. I used my cookie dough scoop and made them smaller so it yields more cookies
I also taste the cinnamon but it really subtle and I don’t think I would know what it is if I didn’t put it in myself. They are going to our shop soon to be shared with our customers and also a club that gathers every Saturday .
I know they are going to be a hit !
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe…going to Pin in now
@lje62 …I’m so glad you made them and Loved them, too! I was going on and on so much about them, I was afraid people would make them and think…eh. I told my DH there was cinnamon in it after he ate one and went for another. He said he could taste something very very faint, but couldn’t tell what it was. They definitely had a rich chocolate taste, but I put that down to 3 cups of chips and it being the kind I used…good to know there was a purpose for the cinnamon…I will keep it in…might even cut it in half just to see.
I have a chocolate oatmeal (not ground) cookie recipe that has cinnamon in it, and I love the cinnamon. I will definitely try these next time I make cookies. Whenever I use the recipe on the bag, they turn out flat and thin.
I have the same problem , musicmom1215…this recipe made a much nicer, chunky type cookie. I don’t like them flat , or overly buttery in flavor
I agree with your husband conmama about the cinnamon. It was just a hint of spice, not enough for me to even identify it, but it enhances the flavor.
