It looks like there may have been auditions to become Tom’s wife, although perhaps not knowlingly. I saw this on Good Morning America this morning.

I totally agree with those of you aghast at Tom Cruise as Reacher, I am rereading the series this summer and seeing those ads as the book is emphasizing his huge size makes me crazy. I also detested Matt Damon as Bourne, was not enamored with Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan and still recall my middle school horror at Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls Wilder ;)

Serious readers have strong feelings about these things, but I suppose we are not their market!

Agree that Ben Affleck was the worst version of Jack Ryan. Chris Pine is the new Jack Ryan in the prequel. It also stars Kevin Costner and Keira Knightly, who plays his wife.

^^^^ Aghast is a perfect word to describe how I feel about TC portraying Jack Reacher. I saw the trailer and previews of the movie this weekend and as my granddaddy would say * chickens will grow lips"* before I waste my time and money seeing that movie. Interestingly, no where in the previews or trailer did I see Lee Childs name.

Katie and Suri were living in my hometown for a bit (her sister lives there). From people’s observations they seem to be doing well. Very happy and a very well-behaved, sweet child. Not sure if they’re still there or if they’ve moved on.

I never had any problem with Melissa Gilbert as LIW. I had a HUGE problem with Michael Landon and whoever was writing the show. But Melissa seemed to have pretty close to the right spirit, at least when she was younger.

What! I think the casting for Harry Potter was brilliant, even though the kids didn’t learn how to act until the third movie. I was just rewatching Harry Potter 1 and Emma was such a cute little knowitall.

First off Emma Watson looked nothing like the descriptions of her character in the books. A few passes with a crimping iron doesn’t make terminally frizzy hair. That’s the most obvious thing but yes it bugged me that she couldn’t act. At all and trally never learned. The other parts were cast pretty well.

I never got over the fact that Daniel Radcliffes eyes were not green. I guess the contacts irritated his eyes, so they let Harry get away with having blue eyes.

11 year old Ema thought that was grounds for casting someone else when the early movies came out…

Ema, Ron had blue eyes in the movie (green in book).

Honestly, NONE of the three characters looked really like their description. 11 year old Emma looked enough like “Hermione” to make it work. They couldn’t predict how she’d look 7-ish years down the line.

I think the director chose not to make Hermione have hair that was too frizzy. And I agree with the Jenny comments completely. she i so much more kickass in the books.

And I wanted Harry’s hair to stick up like in the book. I remember sitting in the theater wondering if they had never considered that revolutionary product hair gel.

Isn’t that Hollywood? They rarely have actually unattractive people (although they couldn’t have known when she was 11 that Emma would grow up to be gorgeous).
