Omgomgomgomg will this affect big time?

[Stanford University endowment plunges 27 percent - San Jose Mercury News](<a href=“Stanford University endowment plunges 27 percent – The Mercury News”>Stanford University endowment plunges 27 percent – The Mercury News)

*** they lost 4 BILLION of their endowment to the market!

Man, this is definitely gonna affect their fin aid contributions, especially for internationals, drastically!

Actually they are set to sustain and increase their fin aid payout, and internationals don’t receive that much financial aid anyway.

In fact your linked article directly mentions Stanford increasing their aid.

Check your facts.

Stanford’s track record for the investment loss of its endowment funds this past year has been in line (percentage wise) with other elite universities. Some were better, some were worse. Stanford still has the third highest endowment in the country behind Harvard and Yale. Stanford also usually receives the highest amount of alumni donations each year of any school.

There is plenty of money at Stanford for financial aid which is a very, very small percentage of the total endowment. If Stanford wants to give priority to student financial aid, there won’t be a problem regardless of what anyone says. Stanford needs to maintain or improve its financial aid to stay competitive with its peer group. This is my speculation. I predict (despite the poor performance of the endowment this past year) that financial aid will only increase in coming years.

I actually had dinner with the rest of my dorm with Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education John Bravman and he said the number one thing they are protecting from budget cuts (he’s in charge of budget cuts) is financial aid. He said financial aid will definitely not get cut in any way.

wow okay thats awesome! Thanks

ya really for international students that need financial aid, the worry isn’t really whether or not you will get enough money but rather whether or not you will get in. focus your energy there.

Oh god pheewww!!When I read the first post I scared…Fortunately they will not cut financial aid…it’s so important for many students, including me…

the percent of the student who will apply for financial aid will be decrease??

P.S sorry for my english…

why would it decrease. if anything at all, it will definitely increase or stay constant

after speaking to a financial aid officer i was told that the financial aid would not decrease, especially since the number of students accepted stays relatively constant every year. she told me that one of the reasons why a lot of the public universities are having a tougher time in dealing with the budget cuts and its affect on financial aid is that they’re also accepting more applicants, all while decreasing the acceptance rate. It’s kinda tricky how it works… Either way, no worries. Stanford seems to be handling it well with regards to financial aid.
