I will be applying there for 10th grade. I have really good grades. I play basketball and run track. I am doing some cs so it will look good on my interview. I just wanna know how hard it is to get in that school. Hugs and kisses ~ Alice.

Bumples!!!

Hmm, well I currently go to Emma, I’m a new sophomore so I sorta just got here a month ago. Lets see. On a scale of 1 to 10 I can’t really do any ranking. I can say that in my opinion it’s easier to get into than other schools that are mentioned on here. I think the single gender aspect plays a role in that. Plus I assume you’d be applying for 11th grade, which has a smaller applicant pool so there wouldn’t be as much competition.

I got in with good grades (all A’s with a few Bs) and an interest in track and cross country (currently on cross country team, planing to run track this spring), I also had a good ammount of community service under my wing.

I believe they focus a lot on the interview, so I’d stress that in the application process. Emma definitely is selective in it’s students but I personally don’t feel it’s necessarally hard or difficult to get into. If you have a strong application you shouldn’t need to be worried.

Let me know if you have any questions about Emma, I’d be happy to answer!

According to “Boarding School Review” the acceptance rate this year is about 34%. These rates change from year to year. Most schools, however, have (in some cases VERY) different acceptance rates for those applying for financial aid and those who will be paying full tuition. I think you’ll see throughout this site that, if boarding school is what you want, you should apply to several schools, at the very least.

Bump!!! The thread

As someone who sent a kid to Emma, I don’t think it’s all that difficult to gain admission to the school. Most parents we know feel the same. There seems to be a highway from the local feeder day schools into Emma. A 50% or less on the SSAT still gets you in, if your other quals are in order.
So from 1 to 10, if the HADES were a 10 for difficulty, I’d give Emma a 5.
Still, incredible people have graduated from Emma, Jane Fonda and US Senator Gillibrand to name a few. Jane Fonda’s son is named ‘Troy’, after the city of her high school.
Emma is a wonderful school, if you’re looking for an all girls situation.

Alextwooffour: I assume you’re talking about full pay students. Our experience at all of these schools is that it is really a two tier system for full pays and FA applicants. I’d be surprised if any FA applicant with a low SSAT score would be accepted most places.

Thanks for the replies BUMP TEH THREAD!

I didn’t say anything about FP vs FA. Obviously, except for a few places, FP applicants have a big advantage. Not just boarding schools but also for colleges. Especially in these economic times. Not sure what that’s got to do with what I previously posted.

alex2of4: “As someone who sent a kid to Emma, I don’t think it’s all that difficult to gain admission to the school. Most parents we know feel the same” could be taken to mean it is easy to get into Emma and I was simply pointing out that “all that difficult” has different meanings for FA and FP.
