“Principles of inorganic chemistry including measurements, structure, nomenclature, reactions, radioactivity, energy, properties of matter, acids/bases and solutions. For Allied Health majors such as nursing, dental hygiene, radiation technology”

That’s the class description, so on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate its:
Difficulty?
Interests?

I just need a science class to transfer and this seems like the most interesting option for me. My strength are in memorization and math (Algebra,Geometry/Trig, Calculus 1-3) would this class fit well for me?

It’s general chemistry. Perhaps it might be different since it’s for health majors. (Maybe easier to help you pad your GPA for med school ;))

It can range anywhere from 1 to 10 depending on your college/professor. There are some really good ones out there and some really bad ones. At my school, the hardest part about lab sciences is the amount of time they consume. 3 1-hour long lectures MWF, a 3-hour lab and 2-hour discussion/recitation on Thursdays. 8 hours of class per week for one 4-credit class is rough.

Your professor will most likely go fast since gen chem covers a lot of material. Sometimes a chapter or multiple chapters in one lecture depending on how long your classes are. The key is to read that night’s HW/Reading BEFORE class so that you know what’s going on and can ask questions on stuff you don’t understand. Gotta keep up with the reading. Same with any intro science class.

If you plan on transferring, double check with a college that this class is transferrable. It sounds a bit like “chemistry lite” if it is pitched towards students who are not continuing on for a bachelors degree (is it pitched towards technical certificates, such as dental hygiene and LPNs and rad techs, or is it pitched towards BSNs and future radiologists?)

If it is transferrable, and you are a pre-med major or plan to major in a subject requiring subsequent classes in chemistry, make sure that the background this class will give you is sufficient.

My major is just Accounting/Business Administration. It’s either take this, and astronomy, oceanography, or geography class to finish my GE. Though I know it is probably a harder subject that the other 3, it seems like a class that would be very interesting.

And I’m sure I would get a high quality professor for this course (according to ratemyprofessor…)

Definitely the amount of time are rough. Here ex. MW: Lecture 3 hours, 50 minute break, Lab 3 hours on Monday. 3 Hour Lab on Wednesday.

More than anything, I just want to take this class just to learn for fun; at the same time, I don’t want it to kill my GPA. :P
