I’m an Irish student on a gap year, and I’m applying to (mostly) competitive colleges in the US - Yale is the dream but whatever happens, happens. So I sat the Leaving Certificate, the Irish university matriculation exam, in June 2018 and I did really well in it, I got one of the highest results in the country, the 99.98th percentile. The LC is probably most comparable to the IB as in we sit a minimum of six wide ranging subjects, from Maths, English, Sciences, Business and Languages and of course the exams are corrected externally and anonymously. I sat nine subjects and goth the highest grade (H1) in eight subjects - Maths, Applied Maths, Physics, Geography, History, English, Economics and Business and a H2 in French. So to cut to the chase, I sat the SAT Subject Tests in US History and Math 2 yesterday and while I didn’t think it was desperately bad, I doubt I was in 800s territory in either, particularly as the curriculum for the Maths test was nothing like it is here. Like what the hell is a matrix, and cosh, never mind the fact that we get all of the formulas we need are provided to us? XD None of the schools I’ve applied to, like Yale, actually require, just recommend SAT Subjects. So my question is with my Leaving Certificate subjects and grades in subjects across the board, is it really necessary to submit SAT Subject test scores, as an international student? Or if I do and there in the mid 750-780 range, would that damage my application even with the LC? Any insight would be appreciated!
