On track?

I am only a junior in hs right now but I’m starting to look around.

I am an IB diploma candidate
All classes are taught HL (except math) but only testing HL in 3
HL History
HL English testing hl
HL German B language
SL Math
HL Biology testing hl
HL Chemistry testing hl
and other requirements like TOK
UW GPA (school doesn’t weigh at all) as of now 3.67 (expecting to grad with no lower than 3.5)
My school has been ranked between 1 and 9 by Newsweek for the past few years

Tests
sat: 1550/2400 <haven’t taken one in a while, focusing on act
Act: 28 Still working on it, hoping to get 29 or 30

I have 50 hospital hours so far and expecting to get at least 100.

I am in a few clubs.
German honor society,Frisbee team, and other non serious ones.

Other EC include physics Olympiad, Bio Olympiad, German Trip, enrichment requirements for the school(such as human dissection) , and other community service projects. Don’t have time to think of specifics.

So basically am I on track for NU. What are my chances for money? Even though I’m middle class, I’d still need a good chunk. I am also considering BU but it seams like my chance for some money is better here at NU and I like the co-op program.

Thanks

Does HL mean honors level or high school level?

Your course load isn’t very competitive and you ACT/SAT are extremely low. GPA is a match but your EC’s are lacking too. I’d say northeastern is a reach and I wouldn’t count on any scholarship.

Disregard my question in the previous post.

I actually think that you have a pretty good chance. Your EC’s are fine, I had less and got into pharmacy. The only thing i could say is to keep up your grades and you should probably invest in a good SAT tutor so your application could look a little more rounded.

cmoney are you high? an IB diploma program is one of the most rigorous programs you can do in high school. HL bio and chem? 2 very very hard courses. cmoney if you don’t know what the IB is don’t just say it’s not good enough. and as for standardized tests, the SAT doesnt look too good, but an ACT of 28 is perfect.

here i copied this off collegeboard.

Test Scores

Middle 50% of Percent Who
First-Year Students Submitted Scores

SAT Critical Reading: 570 - 660 82%
SAT Math: 600 - 680 82%
SAT Writing: - -
ACT Composite: 25 - 29 26%

ya, HL means higher level which is part of the IB

About my sat, I don’t really intend to send that in. That score is about a year old before I took my act class, so I could probably do better. I don’t think it will be as good as my act tho. The site says sat or act so I’d just do act. Unless you guys strongly recommend both?

I know my ECs are a bit low, despite the fact that I didn’t list every one. The IB program in general already requires so much of my “EC time” such as CAS hours, internal assessments, and other IB junk. I’m hoping they will give me some slack in the EC category because of this.

You have a decent shot based on the ACT score, although I’m not sure if NEU prefers SATs (some schools do?). And your GPA, ECs, and courses are pretty good when compared to average applicants. If you could retake the SATs and get 2000+ that’d be a huge boost to your app, but I’d still say you have a fair chance at getting accepted.

However, not to be negative, but you probably won’t receive much merit aid, if any (an increase in SAT/ACT scores would help), but it also kinda depends on what you plan to major in. (Do you have a prospective major yet?) NEU isn’t really known for giving massive need-based finaid [to the middle class] unless you really show demonstrated need, so you may find yourself paying for a good chunk of the cost - but don’t let that deter you from applying. :)
