One Kid headed to college, other kid taking dual credit

One of those College Financial Advisors told me I could claim 2 kids in college if the high schooler was taking dual credit, which would reduce my EFC…that doesn’t seem true to me so does anyone know for sure?

You can only claim students in a degree seeking program, and dual enrollment doesn’t qualify.

Thanks, seemed shady to me.

No. Your HS kid is not a matriculated college student.

In our district the school doesn’t charge the high school students to be dual enrolled in the community college, so there is no way that I would expect that to reduce my EFC.

From the FSA Handbook:
ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY ENROLLMENT
A student enrolled in elementary or secondary school is not eligible for aid from the FSA programs, even if she is simultaneously enrolled in an eligible college program. A student is considered to be enrolled in secondary school if she is pursuing a high school diploma or if she has completed the requirements for a diploma, has not yet received it, and either she is taking college coursework for which her high school gives credit or her high school still considers her to be enrolled there.
