One of those threads

i hate to post one of these threads asking for PM’s, but i’m a little spacy right now, and i need to be grounded. As probably noted elsewhere, I have a “master plan” in the wings. I just need to pare it down to a more workable format. If anyone wants to evaluate my scheme, go 'ead and PM me, so i can get to work on this.

Preferably, I’d like to hear from current students (ideally one’s that have been through deferrals), alumni etc. I don’t need a lot of responses, just a few. Of course, I have no prob sharing this info with my fellow CC ED’ers, decision irregardless…though preferably only my “trusted advisors” (again, u know who u are).

Thanks again guys

I’m gonna pull it off…i hope (thus i need advice so as not to cross that “passionate/annoying” boundary ;))

…

anybody else?

can i get in?

what do u mean?

pm me…i was also sadly deferred

i’m stupid. i should have just posted this here in the first place.

besides, i realised there’s nothing fantastical or overly exciting in here, and it pretty much only pertains to weaknesses in my app.

so, of the following stats, which are the most important, and should be addressed first?

Verbal 730: will take again, this score is ok, but it should go up to at least 750+
Math 690: will go up to at least 700, hopefully more
Writing 610: will likely go up to 700+ now, depends on the prompt. these SAT prompts are the type that i am absolutely worst at, but we’ll see. Also, I can get my former editor at the newspaper i interned at to write a supp rec about how good i am at writing (hah).
Lit 690: idk, that’s crap… my rec from my lit teacher either made up for this, or got itself discredited b/c of the score
USH 680: can get a supp rec from USH teacher. Risky, cuz she’s 26, but i’m her best student, and one of the few she doesn’t hate, so i have high hopes, even if the box (which, of course, won’t apply in this case) says “best i’ve encountered in my career of [3] years”
Math IC 640: i have no clue what happened there hopefully a good SAT I math score will remedy this somewhat. I could also have my physics teacher to write a supp rec, but it’s just honours physics, so idk what effect that may have. Plus i have a 75 in the class (will turn into a B, plus A 1st Q and A on midterm will equal A on transcript)
Testing overall: Couldn’t take ACT in Dec (soccer), or october (hurricane). Got sick in Dec and couldn’t take SAT. I could write several pages about how well i’ve been hosed by SAT’s/ACT’s, but a paragraph somewhere in a diff essay that mentions off-hand how the above happened may be best.
GPA: i could write about how i had difficulty adapting to change, but i don’t want to make excuses, cuz as i always find myself saying: yeah, it may be ok if you have extenuating circumstances…but it’d be better if you were able to completely overcome them and get A’s anyway.

Lack of AP/IB: just re-emphasise that it wasn’t at all possible, and reiterate that i’ll take classes over the summer to catch up.

Midterm grades: We’ll see…likely a B in Bio, which i can do nothing about, and a B in economics. I’m going to get the teacher fired before i accept that B though.

I forgot to mention elsewhere on my app how i transferred from my home school out of zone to my current school, which really demonstrates my drive and initiative (if presented properly).

also, i can mention that i applied on the last day, and wrote my essay that night, b/c i was (of course) out of town the week before. or is that a bad idea?

I’d say very bad idea my friend, They want to believe you spent many days and nights pouring your soul into your app

yeah, i agree
