One or two extra ACT points?

Question for Mollie, Chris, or anyone else in the know:

Son just got 32 composite on the ACT (including 36 math and 34 science). He has 3.9+ gpa, all honors and AP. He has 4 years of Project Lead the Way courses with straight A+, demonstrating passion for engineering. He will have a glowing recommendation from his engineering teacher. This is not a chance thread. We just want to know, all else being equal, will getting an extra point or two on an ACT retake improve his standing, or will it not really make a difference from 32?

I’m not Chris, and I don’t have any inside knowledge about the way different scores are viewed, but my intuition would suggest that an extra point or two composite won’t make a difference.

(And I had a 33 composite. :))

I think it depends on whether your son thinks spending the time to get a higher score is worth it. If he has the time to improve his score without missing out on other stuff, why not?
