One rejection, is there still hope for others?

I applied to many good schools, however there was a special place in my heart for Northwestern. After being too afraid to look at my admission decision the entire day, I finally checked it and found that I was rejected.

I am waiting for answers from Amherst, Dartmouth, Duke, NYU, and Yale. Even though they are all very competitive, do I even have a chance at my two Ivies? I currently have a couple of acceptances including Syracuse with a good scholarship, and University of British Columbia.

I am an international student from the Middle East taking the IB Diploma program with a predicted 40, 2000 SAT and 3.7 GPA to give you just a general view of myself. I have strong extracurriculars for my geographic location (Volleyball, MUN, lots of volunteer work).

This is my first rejection from the six answers I have heard so far, and I really wanted Northwestern, but now I have bigger worries like not getting into any of my reach schools.

I’m sorry for your decision. However, you need to know that as an international, the barrier is higher and your stats are lower than the bottom 25% of the accepted students.

Syracuse is a great school and you have a generous FA. Congrats!

Expect the worst, but hope for the best for the next two weeks.

I agree with the above^^^. Stats are weak for the OP’s reaches.

I concur. Woot for Syracuse!

Hey there! As an international student, you should know it’s rough out there but one rejection doesn’t mean it’s over.
Usually college admissions are kinda weird. One kid gets into Stanford but not UChicago? What? Huh? Some kid gets into Princeton but waitlisted at Chapel Hill? It happens. One rejection NEVER determines a string of rejections! At least you have places to go that you an fall back on. Syracuse is not an easy school to get into, be proud of your accomplishments and where you have gotten into. Sit back, hold on, and wait for the rest. Don’t worry - miracles do happen? Prepare for the worst, but always hope for the best. Good luck, I’m not an international but I’m waiting on my decisions too.

I think you have a really good shot at NYU, but unfortunately not at the others.
