ONE thing; you regret

What is one aspect, anything; you regret from Highschool?

This same question was asked to the freshmans in the University of Miami, 8 out of 10 students said, time management.

Not getting involved in school earlier… seriously. As cheesy as it sounds.

Not dropping out to homeschool myself

Not self-studying more APs (i was definitely in the position to 5 a couple of them in 9th grade, alas, it was a junior high hell)

Taking the academic ambitions of my classmates too seriously (none of them really had any)

Caring too much about making an impression on people who I’ll never talk with again (problematic since in early 10th grade I wanted to make an impression on THREE separate communities: HS, heavengames though I finally quit that in an outburst, and CC)

underestimating the power of self-study (which everyone must rely on after college)

being too reluctant to even take a look at books from the university library

not knowing that there was a DIRECT BUS ROUTE between my HOUSE and BOTH the public and university libraries

studying too much history and not enough social science (esp. econ)

mixed:
not seeking research earlier (this was previously a regret, but I kind of see breadth first, depth second as my preferred approach more in line with my interests and talents)

and i don’t know if my plans would have been realistic since I didn’t have 3 years of CC and AoPS archives to look over back when I was in 9th grade

==
I’m kind of trying to help CT do exactly what I would have done if I had the chance to go through it all over again (and yes CT, this includes taking APs and SAT IIs)

Not getting my driver’s license a year ago. (Now I’m in college and I have to fly back home to take the road test.)

Missing the AIME floor by one point. Boo, I suck. :p

Talking to Catherine. Now I know the perils of doing research with plagiarizing whores!

All in all, not much.

Wow, I was rather expecting more replies, I guess not many people have atleast one regret from highschool…

I have alot of regrets from high school. Just thinking of high school gets me so ****ed of. I just want to forget.

Why’d you put a semicolon in the thread title?

Same as lauralice. Not getting involved in school earlier.

Deciding never to swear again when I was in third grade. I’ve stood by it ever since and will never turn against it for fear of being a hypocrite. Fudgemuffins, why’d I do that goshdarn thing?

I don’t know if I really can regret the above though. It’s all based on probability (as all highly unusual decisions are - they have high rates of catastrophic failure, but also higher rates of astounding success). In some worlds, I would easily regret all of the above. In a few other worlds though, where I’m at is ideal. I really sacrificed my university GPA by carrying on self-education ON TOP of a full class load. But if I can still get recognized (somehow), then I will probably have no regrets (one of the reasons why I have so much drive is precisely because I realized how behind I was come 9th grade). Were I self-educated from 6th grade on, I may not have never developed a drive to “catch up”, a drive that has transformed itself to massive curiosity.

my brother has always been academically ahead of me - he even surpassed my 9th grade abilities when he was in 7th grade. but now he’s lost his advantage (due to his lack of curiosity, lack of passion…).
