Online Banking in Residence Halls

Do you believe it is safe to do online banking if you live in the residence halls on-campus?

I’m directly connected to the wall ethernet which I discovered is MAGNITUDES slower than the WiFi, but I also discovered that when I connect to the WiFi or the wall ethernet, I can detect other peoples’ computers and their shared files, regardless of Windows or Mac status.

I am paying my own way through college and lately I’ve been wanting to check on my account balance to make sure that I have enough money in my account to make my next payment. I’m just a little worried that doing online banking and such while you’re living in the residence halls might be a little… sketchy.

What do you think? What alternatives are there?

I would not be in the least bit concerned about it personally.

Make sure that your computer has all security updates and is otherwise secure (no unwanted file sharing, no weak passwords, no unwanted network services, etc.).

It’s fine.
