online cruise booking company - experience?

I get emails from Vacations To Go, online cruise booking “consolidator” or whatever the right word is for “they try to sell all the unsold cabins.” I have found a cruise for an extremely good price for the specific week this summer that we can travel. They have an A+ rating with the BBB. Anyone use them before? I fully expect that the price quoted on the email is just the base price and doesn’t include taxes, etc. and I have been on two cruises before, so I know what to expect in that regard. Thanks.

I haven’t used that website, but I have used a cruise company out of Princeton, NJ called Crown Cruise vacations and have always received good service. Just ask for anyone to help you…it may pay for you to call them too since they also get cruises at super discount prices because of the volume of business they do. They also throw in free money to be spent on board in whatever capacity you want. See how it compares to the prices you are seeing on-line…

I get their e-mails too. I have been told (no personal experience) that their reps are very “hard sell.”

I get those emails too but I am leary. I had good success booking with Costco.com last year for an Alaska cruise. They were very helpful on the phone and DH and I each received a $75 shipboard credit. When I did Caribbean cruise this winter, I booked directly with the cruise line as I took advantage of nice discount for repeat cruiser.

Actually the tip to use Costco.com came from a poster here on another thread. I think it might have been HImom but I am not 100% sure.

I used Cruisecompete dot com. You basically pick a cruise and a cabin category. Then travel agents send you emails with their offers.

Worked fine for me.

I have used Vacationstogo.com on several cruises, and they have always been wonderful to deal with. They are located in Texas and probably have hundreds of agents working in their offices. No matter which agent has helped me when I have called, they have always been very professional and done just what they said they would. There were no mistakes or anything like that. I would not hesitate to recommend them. I have also used them in planning other vacations and all inclusive resorts.

I’ve been on at least a dozen cruises and have met many passengers who said they used VacationsToGo. I don’t have any experience with them.

Thanks, everyone! I checked a few other online booking sites last night and didn’t see anything as good as the VTG prices. I will check cruisecompete; didn’t look at that one. We are not Costco members.

I know that in my case, when I talk to an actual Cruise travel agent, the prices are better than the ones posted on-line. IMO it pays to talk to live people who can get you the best deal for the cruise you are looking for as well as on-board credit to use and insurance is included in the price, and they can also get you the best room at whatever level you want…it really does pay to shop around by talking to live agents.
