Online GRE Course

please help me with this

I am an international student with moderate-good level in english and excellent in vocabulary ( memorized and practised the whole Barron’s word list)

I need enhancement in the reading section and I am doing intensive general reading.

Because I don’t have a solid base in english - do you recommend taking the 799$ princeton GRE online course which includes live interaction ??

Is there any other online course that is strongly recommended by many test takers ?

Do you have an idea wether the princeton course is good or no ??

Any other comments will be more more more than just wholeheartedly appreciated … thanks in advance

If you have not already done so, take one of the GRE PowerPrep timed tests. They are virtually identical to the real thing. You may not actually need any additional help.

thanks alot for your help William

but I do need an online course - I need lessons not only practise coz my english is soooo weak specially in the critical reading section

I would be grateful if you can ask me about any good online courses - that is a life saver for me

thanks alot again :D

pleaaaaaaaaase … no help :(

If you are already using the Barron’s book, then I second WilliamC’s suggestion. Before you spend a ton of money on an online course, take the Powerprep online to see if you actually need a course. All the book test prep may be enough. The course itself is not likely to help you more than the test prep books. Powerprep will give you a good idea of the score you are likely to get on the GRE.

I’m not certain what you think the course will do for you that the test prep books won’t. If your struggle is with the English language yourself, courses won’t help. The courses do the same thing the books do - they teach you strategies, which won’t help you if you don’t understand the language. Stick with the books.

Thanks for your helpful reply Desp and William

My hope is that the course will tell me the basics of critical reading and some literature
I am doing intensive reading on journals like Scientific american and Physiology - Time Magazine and some novels like Emma - great expectations - jane eyre

I am fine with the journals - but the novels are complicated somehow i feel i need help in analysis

Is there any online course that can fulfull this need …it would be fine if you can give me at least search words for these kind of courses

once again - your help ws heartouching - specially before I was going to spend 799$ on the princeton online course

The GRE prep courses will not teach you critical reading and lit. You can try to find an online college course that will do that - try the following:

University of Wisconsin http://distancelearning.wisconsin.edu/</a>
Indiana University http://scs.indiana.edu/</a>
University of Texas http://www.utexas.edu/cee/dec/</a>
University of Georgia <a href=“Independent and Distance Learning Closing”>Independent and Distance Learning Closing;

You can also use some study guides like SparkNotes with your reading to help guide you.

I should point out that the online classes I listed are often more expensive than the GRE prep courses! So it really depends on why you feel you need them. If you want to just do better on the GRE, they are not worth taking. Just read books with study guides. If your concern is that you are not prepared for grad school, the classes may be an option.

SparkNotes provide some analysis and vocab for specific books. Generally I don’t promote them, but it sounds like your situation might actually be a perfect fit for their use. They cost maybe $13 each, and you can find them on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
