I am looking to take math 150 (Calculus and Analytic Geometry I, Calculus AB equivalent) at my local community college. I’m a sophomore in high school so I can’t take classes during the day, and there are no night classes offered for this course. The only other option is to take an online math course and I’m not sure if I should enroll in it, or wait another semester to see what other options are available.
Has anyone had experience taking a college math course online and what did you think about it?
y not take in person in hs?
Looking to take a course like this suggests to me that you are interested in some kind of STEM field eventually. Therefore, a solid and thorough understanding of the principles behind a course like Calculus AB is most important. You are ahead of the curve. Slow down and make sure you have a path to that understanding of the subject.
Education isn’t a race.
My first reaction as a former math major is that this is something that you want to learn very well. Calculus is the basis for quite a bit that you are likely to be learning in the future.
Also, if you are even thinking of taking calculus as a sophomore in high school, then you are way ahead in math.
I would be inclined to wait until you can take it in person, preferably with a very good teacher. Also, make sure that you are solid on the prerequisites before you start calculus.
By the way, it was quite a while ago, but I have used multivariate calculus on the job multiple times.
