Online Premed

I am currently getting a BS in Health Sciences from Kaplan University Online, what are the chances of getting into a Medical School with an Online Degree? Kaplan is Regionally Accredited.

It’s unlikely that an MD school in the US will find a BS in Health Science from Kaplan University Online of sufficient academic rigor, methinks.

You’re not getting into medical school with an online degree.

How can you do lab classes online?

^Online degree = no way.
Health sciences major = unlikely.
All you need now is a couple of Bs and a maybe a C and you’ll have 3 strikes and YOU’RE OUT!

But seriously… don’t do an online degree. Med schools will laugh and you don’t want that.

Hi gjet68,

I’m not sure that is still even matters, but I am a B.S of Health Science at Kaplan as well and there are several schools within the U.S that are willing to accept my degree. I do however have to take most of my science classes on a separate campus in order to do labs. It’s not easy, but you can get into medical school with a degree from Kaplan despite what the other people say. You just really have to work towards it. If you are still at Kaplan, you are more than welcome to help me form a pre-med group for the American Student Medical Association for Kaplan.

Thanks,
DiehlA

^Just a thought…but having “several schools” willing to accept your degree means you are limited to those for even slight consideration. Your chances at one of them accepting you are quite small. Most applicants apply to upwards of 13 schools. A quick look at the MSAR identifies only 13 of 132 schools willing to accept an online degree. An additional 32 will consider looking at you if you have extraordinary reasons for having done such a program. The other 87 are quite absolute that they will not take online coursework. Period. Being as medicine requires heavy interpersonal interaction, this only makes sense. Take courses in a classroom setting. It’s just the better way to go.

Willing to accept your degree is a long shot from actually accepting you.
