Is it truly feasible to get high (5 or 6) scores on an AP test with an online course? From what I’ve heard, the online courses are best used for enrichment but are not adequate for actual test-taking.

The subjects I am considering taking online are
AP Euro Hist
Biology
and Chem

The program our school uses is called APEX, but I’m asking about the general caliber of courses…

Thank you!!

Just as an FYI, there are multiple locked threads in the top of the forum that address the issue of self-studying and give valuable tips. Please look through these questions and I’m sure you’ll find the information you are looking for :)

I am not sure you could get a 6 with only an online AP course, but I am sure that a 5 is certainly not out of the question. Hehe, ;)

Online classes can vary as much as face-to-face classes. Sligh and I have had some different experiences with online APs. If you work hard, you’ll be fine.

Sligh made the above comment because the only scores you can get on the AP exam are 1-5.

I took micro/macro economics last year online, and I was blessed with a great teacher. Even so, I easily could have gotten an A for the class without knowing a thing about economics. However, I had a slight amount of discipline, so I studied as I would independently and got double 4s. This year I’m taking Computer Science and Psychology, and it’s pretty much the same deal. At the moment, I don’t know anything about either class, but I’m already starting to study and learn the material.

The bottom line is that online courses, in my experience, are like self-studying with homework, grades, and a slight amount of pressure to do your work.

Oh, just an edit: Euro, chem, and bio are probably some of the last classes you would want to take online. Bio and chem are tricky classes, especially since there’s such an influence on labs. As for Euro, you deserve an award if you can discipline yourself to read an entire (or even the majority of a) textbook by yourself without any teacher lectures.
