Only 3 years of High School

Here’s the deal. I was accepted to a specialized public school for 11th and 12th grade, but I applied after only a year of high school, so in essence I skipped a grade. This next year as part of the senior year curriculumn at my school I will be attending WPI full time. I have good grades, pretty solid SAT scores (2040) and plenty of extra curriculars including leadership roles and MENSA.

My question is, what’s the proceedure for applying to colleges? Do I need to explain why I skipped a year? Will they waive the “required” high school courses such as 4 years of english? Should I make notes of the fact I don’t have 10th grade on my EC resume or should I minimize the fact that I only have 3 years of HS?

I would appreciate any advice given. Everyone I’ve talked to seems pretty clueless about what I should do.

A letter from your counselor should cover it. I did it 30 years ago when it wasn’t so common and it wasn’t a problem. I didn’t even get a diploma and I got accepted with scholarships most places.

It is not clear WHY you skipped a grade. I think your task is to convey to the ADCOMs that you didn’t learn less because of that. This can be done in your essay and interviews, plus counselor’s letter. However, I am not sure many top colleges will overlook the fact that you didn’t meet their requirements (e.g, 4 years of English, 3 years of foreign language, etc. You probably met the science and math requirements). If you look at the requirements for WPI where you said you are taking courses, they need four years of math.
